Humber and Lady Hawks place 3rd in Chick-fil-A Spring Invitational

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The Huntingdon women's golf team shot a 331 in the final round and finished with a 677 to place third in the Chick-fil-A Spring Invitational on Tuesday.

The 331 ties for the fifth best round in program history. The Lady Hawks have shot 331 or better in six of 16 rounds since the start of the fall season. The two-round total of 677 is the seventh best 36-hole total in program history.

Freshman Savannah Humber led the Lady Hawks with a 79 at Achasta Golf Club on Tuesday and placed third in the tournament with a 161.

"Savannah has been knocking on the door all season and today she fired her best competitive round of college golf on a very difficult Jack Nicklaus course," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "This is her first All-Tournament team finish and I feel like it will be the first of many for her.

"As a team, I thought the girls played great. We just couldn't make up the ground we lost in Round 1. But it was good for us to face some Division II competition. I think it made the girls step up their game."

Freshman LeeAnn Cahoon was fifth at 165 and senior Saem Hur shot 79 in the final round and tied for 11th at 169. Freshman Courtney Harville finished with a 185 and sophomore Jessie Culey shot 194.

"The girls did a great job battling it out on a difficult course today," Huntingdon assistant coach Ashley Aguilera said. "I'm proud of our effort this week. We overcame a rough start and pushed through to finish third. Placing third in a Division II tournament says a lot about how far the girls have come. We are continuing to improve and we still have our eyes on trying to earn a bid to nationals."

A pair of Division II teams finished first and second in the tournament. Shorter University won with a two-round total of 660 and the University of North Georgia was second at 666.

Shorter's Claudia Orrantia was the medalist with a 4-over-par 76 in the final round and a 155 for the tournament.

Huntingdon returns to competition in the Callaway Collegiate on Saturday and Sunday.
