Six Huntingdon golfers named Academic All-Americans

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Six Huntingdon golfers were recently recognized as Academic All-Americans.

Rodes BowersGriffin JustJamey Lester and Steven Smith were named to the Golf Coaches Association of America's Cleveland/Srixon All-America Scholar team and Saem Hur and Courtney Harville were named to the Women's Golf Coaches Association's All-American Scholar team.

This is the third straight year Hur has earned the honor and the second straight year for Bowers and Lester.

On the men's side, Bowers, Just, Lester and Smith were among 239 golfers recognized in Division I, II, III and the NAIA. In Division III alone, 46 golfers were chosen. Huntingdon is one of six schools in the state of Alabama to have at least one golfer selected.

Huntingdon and the University of the South Alabama led the in-state schools with four golfers, the University of Alabama, Auburn University and Troy University each had two and Alabama State University had one.

To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 77.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.

Hur and Harville were among 664 women's golfers in Division I, II and III recognized. A total of eight golfers were recognized from colleges and universities in the state of Alabama. The University of Alabama had three selections and Auburn University, UAB and Birmingham-Southern each had one selection.

To be eligible for selection as a WGCA All-American Scholar, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA for the entirety of her collegiate career, be in attendance at the certifying institution for the entire academic year, be of high moral character and in good standing at the college making the nomination and have played in a minimum of 12 rounds and hold an adjusted scoring average of 95 or less.
