Lady Hawks turn in program-record 301 in Golfweek D3 Fall Invitational

DESTIN, Fla. – The Huntingdon women's golf team turned in a record-setting round in the second round of the Golfweek D3 Fall Invitational.

The Lady Hawks shaved 19 strokes off their opening round score and fired a program-record 301 at the Baytowne Golf Club on Monday. The round is eight strokes better than the Lady Hawks' previous record of 309 set last fall.

"The girls were outstanding today. This is the kind of performance we have been looking for since the start of the season," Huntingdon assistant golf coach Ashley Aguilera said. "I feel like it's starting to come together for all of them. When we're all playing well on the same day, this is the kind of result we're capable of. We are in great position going into Round 3. I'm very proud of the entire team."

Huntingdon's round led the 18-team field in the second round and helped pull the Lady Hawks within three strokes of first place. With one round left to play on Tuesday, the University of Texas-Tyler leads the way at 618, Sewanee is second at 619 and Huntingdon is tied for third with Washington University-St. Louis at 621.

"I'm so proud of our girls. They played really well today," Huntingdon Director of Golf Dave Schreyer said. "A 301 made a few people notice what the Lady Hawks are capable of. Tomorrow will be exciting. I expect another day like today."

Two Lady Hawks are in the top-10 after two rounds. Junior LeeAnn Cahoon turned in her best round of the fall with a 2-over-par 74 and is tied for seventh at 153. Freshman Hallie Rice tied her best collegiate round with a 3-over 75 and is tied for 10th at 155.

Cahoon, who has turned in six of the top nine rounds in program history, was two strokes off the Lady Hawks' record of 72 she set last season. This is the second time Rice has shot 75 in the past five rounds.

Junior Savannah Humber and freshman Katelyn Gilmore both shot 4-over 76. The round was Gilmore's best collegiate round and was two strokes off Humber's best collegiate round. Humber is tied for 16th at 157 and Gilmore is tied for 30th at 160. With a 78 on Monday, sophomore Kelsey Spivey is tied for 22nd at 158.

Texas-Tyler's Laura Lindsey turned in the best round on Monday with a 4-under 68 and leads the field by five strokes with a 2-under 142.
