Spivey leads Lady Hawks with 1-over 73 in Rd. 2 at Jekyll Island

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The 13th-ranked Huntingdon women's golf team shaved seven strokes off of its first-round total and shot 313 on Saturday in the second round of the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate Invitational.

The Lady Hawks climbed two spots and are tied for seventh with a two-round total of 633 entering the final round on Sunday. Seventh-ranked Sewanee continues to lead the 23-team field with a two-round total of 599. Whitman College is second at 610 and New York University is third at 611.

Huntingdon sophomore Kelsey Spivey bounced back from tough first-round and turned in her best collegiate round on Saturday with a 1-over-par 73. Spivey has a two-round total of 160.

Spivey is the fifth Lady Hawk to shoot 73 or better, joining junior LeeAnn Cahoon, freshman Hallie Rice and former golfers Saem Hur and Ali Hamil. Cahoon set the program record with a 72 in the fall of 2014.

Coming off of a 2-over 74 on Friday, Cahoon shot a 4-over 76 on Saturday. With one round to play, she is seven strokes out of first and tied for seventh with a 6-over 150.

Sewanee's Emily Javadi and Bridgewater's Christina Herbert are tied for the tournament lead at 1-under 143.

Rice is 10 strokes behind Cahoon and tied with Spivey at 160, followed by sophomore Lindsey Huff with a two-round 164 and junior Courtney Harville with a 169.
