Cahoon earns medalist honors in BSC Southern Shootout

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Senior LeeAnn Cahoon earned medalist honors and the Huntingdon women's golf team finished third in the BSC Southern Shootout on Monday.

A day after firing the best round in program history with a 1-under-par 69, Cahoon followed with a 3-over 73 in the final round on Monday. The two-round total of 2-over 142 is the best 36-hole total in Lady Hawks' history.

Cahoon's victory is the first individual tournament win in Lady Hawks' history and the second individual win of any kind in program history. Former golfer Saem Hur tied for first in a head-to-head, one-round match with Birmingham-Southern in 2011.

"I am beyond proud of LeeAnn," Huntingdon associate head golf coach Ashley Crane said. "She is a great leader and has been for three years. She has come so close to winning in the past. For her to earn a win in the first event of her senior year says a lot about her preparation this summer. I think this will be the first of many wins for her this season."

As a team, Huntingdon shot 308 on Sunday to tie for the third best round in program history. The Lady Hawks were one stroke better on Monday with a 307 to tie for the second best round in program history.

The two-round total of 615 is a new record for the Lady Hawks.

Berry College won the 15-team tournament with a two-round 604 and Methodist University was second at 614. Fourth-place Oglethorpe finished three strokes behind Huntingdon with a score of 618.

Three Lady Hawks finished in the top-20 in the field of 85 golfers. Behind Cahoon, sophomore Katelyn Gilmore was 18th with a two-round 158 and senior Courtney Harville tied for 19th at 159.

Sophomore Hallie Rice tied for 26th at 162 and junior Kelsey Spivey shot 166. Spivey had the Lady Hawks' second best round on Monday with a 77.

Playing as individuals, freshman Madi DeWees tied for 21st with a two-round 160 and freshman Hannah Amburn finished with a two-round 170.

Huntingdon returns to action this weekend in the DePauw Small College Classic.
