Lady Hawks in 2nd after Rd. 1 of DIII Golfweek Fall Invitational

DESTIN, Fla. – The Huntingdon women's golf team shot 311 in the opening round of the Division III Golfweek Fall Invitational on Sunday.

Entering Monday's second round at the Baytowne Golf Club, the Lady Hawks are in second and seven strokes out of first. Washington University-St. Louis shot 304 on Sunday and leads the 16-team tournament. Methodist and Oglethorpe are tied for third at 318.

Three Huntingdon golfers are in the top-eight and within three strokes of first after the first round. Junior Vanessa Leiterman is one shot off the lead and tied for third with a 3-over-par 75. Freshman Olivia Hickson is two strokes off the lead and tied for fifth with a 4-over 76 and junior Katelyn Gilmore is three strokes out of first and tied for eighth with a 5-over 77.

Washington University-St. Louis' Samantha Haubenstock and Chloe DiPetrillo are tied for the lead at 2-over 74.

Head Women's Golf Coach Ashley Crane on Round 1: "We had a great start today and are sitting in second place. We have two more rounds ahead of us and we want to continue to play well and finish strong."
