Huntingdon women tied for 14th in Jekyll Island Invitational

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – The Huntingdon women's golf team shot 332 in the first round of the Jekyll Island Invitational on Friday.

The 16th-ranked Lady Hawks are tied for 14th entering Saturday's second round. Fourth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps leads the 23-team tournament with a 14-over-par 302. Seventeenth-ranked Whitman College is second with a 308 and 12th-ranked Methodist University is third with a 309.

The tournament features 12 top-25 teams, including six teams ranked in the top-10.  

Junior Vanessa Leiterman shot a 79 to lead Huntingdon and is tied for 27th. Junior Katelyn Gilmore shot 80, freshman Olivia Hickson shot 82, sophomore Madi DeWees shot 91 and freshman Anna Beth Harris shot 93.

Whitman College's Phoebe Nguyen leads the field with a 1-under 71.

                                    

Coming Up: Huntingdon will play in Round 2 of the Jekyll Island Invitational on Saturday.
