Women’s lacrosse falls behind late in loss to Otterbein

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team rallied from an early deficit but couldn't hold off a late push by Otterbein in a 17-13 loss on Sunday.

The Lady Hawks gave up six goals in the first nine minutes of the game and fell behind 6-2. But Huntingdon (0-5) answered, tied the game 6-6 midway through the first half and played Otterbein (1-0) evenly until late in the game.

Tied 11-11 with less than 15 minutes to play, Otterbein scored five goals in a five-minute span to take the lead for good.

Briana Gress led Huntingdon with four goals, four ground balls and three draw controls. Jamie Reschke scored three goals and was 2-for-2 on free-position shots. Shannen O'Leary, who scored her first goal 14 seconds into the game, finished with two goals, four draw controls and four ground balls.

Jen Price had two goals, nine ground balls, four draw controls and two caused turnovers. Kate Heinrichs had one goal and five ground balls, Lonnitria Keenan scored one goal and Bridget Lee had two caused turnovers.

Goalie Victoria Krupa recorded eight saves and allowed 17 goals.

Huntingdon opens conference play on March 8 at Meredith at 11 a.m.
