Women’s lacrosse beats Millsaps 15-6

JACKSON, Miss. – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team earned its first win of the season on Sunday afternoon, beating Millsaps College 15-6.

The Majors (0-7) took a 1-0 lead early in the first-half but the Lady Hawks (1-6) scored five goals in just over 15 minutes to pull ahead 5-2.

Millsaps cut the lead to two with 5:46 remaining, but Victoria Krupa scored with 44 seconds left to give Huntingdon a 6-3 lead going into halftime.

Jade Paul scored three first-half goals while Maddy Morrison, Carolyn Smith and Krupa each added one goal.

Sarah Brooks scored early in the second-half, but the Majors answered back with a pair of goals to cut the lead to 7-5.

With 24:35 left in the game, Huntingdon's defense shut down the Majors and the Lady Hawk's offense stepped up, rattling off eight goals in just over 20 minutes to put the game away.

In the eight goal span, Krupa and Brooks scored twice and Paul, Morrison, Smith and Sam Blount added goals.

Paul finished with a game-high four goals and added five draw controls, six ground balls and two caused turnovers. Smith added four points with two goals and two assists.

Krupa and Brooks each added three goals in the win. Morrison scored twice and had three ground balls and Blount had one goal.

Goalie Alyssa Alvarado finished with seven saves and three ground balls. Joey Lopez added four ground balls and Mikalah Bowman had four draw controls and three ground balls.

The Lady Hawks host Framingham State on Thursday for a 4 p.m. matchup.
