Morrison, Paul lead Lady Hawks in win over Ferrum

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Freshman Maddy Morrison and sophomore Jade Paul combined for nine goals in Saturday's 16-8 win over USA South Athletic Conference opponent Ferrum.

The Lady Hawks (2-8, 1-1 USA South) jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first-half after a pair of goals from Morrison. Ferrum (4-4, 0-2 USA South) answered back to cut the lead to one, but a goal by Paul pushed the advantage back to two.

The Panthers scored with 9:21 remaining in the first, but Carolyn Smith found Morrison for her third goal before Victoria Krupa scored to put Huntingdon ahead 5-2.

Ferrum scored with just over three minutes left in the opening half to head into halftime trailing 5-3.

Alexa Murray opened the second-half with her first of three points before Ferrum answered back one minute later. Murray, Smith, Sarah Brooks and Morrison scored for Huntingdon in an eight minute span to give the Lady Hawks a 10-5 lead with 16:01 remaining in the game.

After Ferrum answered back with three goals in a little over five minutes, Huntingdon closed the game with five unanswered goals to take a 16-8 win.

Morrison finished with a career-high five goals and recorded three ground balls and four draw controls. Paul scored four goals off five shots-on-goal and had four ground balls, two draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Murray, Krupa and Smith each had a three-point day. Murray and Smith each scored twice and had one assist while Krupa had one goal and two assists. Krupa also had four ground balls, three draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Brooks had one goal and two caused turnovers. Mikalah Bowman scored once and had two ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers. Lindsey Huff had one assist. Joey Lopez had three ground balls.

Alyssa Alvarado recorded three saves in the win.

Huntingdon returns to action on Sunday against conference opponent Greensboro. Game time is set for noon.
