Huntingdon rallies but comes up short against Dallas

IRVING, Texas – The Huntingdon women's lacrosse team rallied from a halftime deficit and took the lead late in the second half but fell just short in a 15-13 loss to the University of Dallas on Saturday.

Huntingdon trailed 8-1 at halftime before scoring 12 goals in a little more than 21 minutes in the second half. The Lady Hawks scored the first three goals of the second half to cut Dallas' lead to four.

After Dallas answered and took a 12-5 lead midway through the second half, Huntingdon scored eight straight goals in less than eight minutes. A Vanessa Maldonado goal started the rally with 14:01 to play.

Shelby Martin scored three goals and Shelby Blair scored one in a three-minute span before Maldonado scored twice to tie the game 12-12. Olivia Stinson scored on a free-position shot with 6:10 remaining to put Huntingdon in front 13-12.  

Dallas retook the lead in the final five minutes and was able to close out the game.

Maldonado finished with five goals for Huntingdon and Martin had four goals and eight draw controls. Blair scored twice and Stinson and Savannah Ryan each scored once. Ryan also had four ground balls and Stinson had an assist. 

Kaylee Andrews had an assist and six draw controls and Alex Teague and Morgan Pelfrey each caused three turnovers. Pelfrey also had four ground balls. Goalie Morgan Coppini finished with seven saves, six ground balls and 15 goals allowed in 60 minutes.
