Hawks compete in Cumberland Open

LEBANON, Tenn. – The Huntingdon wrestling team competed in the Cumberland Open on Saturday and picked up eight wins.
Brandon Abejon (141 pounds), DeAndre Beck (149) and Jesse Rowlen (285) each went 2-2 on the day. Deon Maxwell (165) and Jesse Herron (197) each recorded one win. Team scores were not recorded.
Abejon won his first match of the day by decision, 2-0, and fell in the quarterfinals by decision 11-5. Abejon won in the consolation bracket by pin in 2:20 before losing in the next round by pin.
Beck lost his first match in sudden victory, 6-4 before winning back-to-back matches by a technical fall, 21-6 and by injury default. Beck lost in the third consolation round by pin.
Rowlen won his first two matches by decision, 4-3 and by forfeit. Rowlen then lost in the semi-final round, 8-2 before losing in the consolation semi-final round, 5-0.
Maxwell won his first match by decision, 7-4 before losing his next two matches. Herron won his first match by decision, 4-2. Herron then fell in the next match by major decision.
Huntingdon returns home on February 6 to face Allen University in Wilson Gym at 2 p.m.
