Wrestling competes in the Star City Open

ROANOKE, Va. – The Huntingdon wrestling team competed in the Estes Environmental Star City open hosted by Ferrum College on Saturday.

Junior DeAndre Beck (141 pounds) placed fifth with a 2-2 record in the open.

Beck started his day with a loss by way of a 3-1 decision. Beck moved to the consolation bracket where he won 4-2 in the first sudden victory round. The junior then lost 3-1 before winning 6-4 in the fifth place match.

Wyatt Miller (165) fell in the first round but won two matches in the consolation bracket. Miller pinned teammate Kyle Borgus and earned a 18-0 technical fall victory. Miller then lost an 8-4 decision before losing by an injury default in the fifth place match.

Ryan Brooks (125) picked up one win by pinning his opponent in 1:44. Quintez Pearson (149) earned a 13-4 major decision victory while Sam Garrison (157) pinned teammate Jared Mercer in four minutes.

Pierce Erhardt (157) advanced to the quarterfinals with a 10-3 decision and a pin in 4:07. The freshman then lost his next two matches.

Deon Maxwell (157) picked up a 6-1 decision while Robert Lowery (157) won once with a pin in 3:27.

Chase Thomas (165) lost in his first bout put picked up three wins with two pins and one injury default before falling in the fifth round of the consolation bracket.

Jimmy Haynes (285) pinned his opponent to close out the night for the Hawks.

Huntingdon hosts Division II opponent Limestone College on December 11 in Wilson Gym.
