Rowlen’s pin lifts Hawks over Averett

DANVILLE, Va.  – Senior Jesse Rowlen recorded a pin in the final match of the day to help Huntingdon get by Averett University 24-21 on Saturday night.

With Huntingdon trailing 21-18 entering the 285-pound match, Rowlen came through with a pin. Rowlen took down Dia Gray at the 4:20 mark to earn the decisive six points for the Hawks.

The first-year Cougars won the first three weight classes to take a 12-0 lead in the match and led 21-3 with four weight classes remaining. Wyatt Miller (174 pounds), Cody Dixon (184) and Kori Walker (197) each won their matches to keep Huntingdon's hopes alive and set up the deciding match.

Miller won by technical fall, Dixon won by major decision and Walker won with a pin. Quintez Pearson (149) picked up the Hawks' first points of the match with a 6-4 decision.
