Fourth-year Hawks match season record with fifth team win

CLEVELAND, Ga.  – The Huntingdon wrestling team won two matches over NAIA opponents on Saturday at Truett-McConnell University.

The Hawks took down West Virginia University Institute of Technology 28-21 and beat Truett-McConnell 45-8.  This was the first win in five meetings with Truett-McConnell. This was the first meeting with West Virginia University Tech.

With the two wins, the fourth-year Hawks have won three straight dual matches and five dual matches this season. The three-match winning streak is the longest in the young program's history and the five wins this season ties the program record set last season.

The Hawks totaled six pins, one technical fall and two major decisions in Saturday's wins. Jesse Rowlen (285 pounds), Deon Maxwell (165), Kaleb Fontenot (157), Quintez Pearson (149) and DeAndre Beck (141) were each 2-0 on the day.

Against West Virginia University Tech, Fontenot and Rowlen each won by pin, Pearson won by major decision and Beck and Maxwell both won by decision. Cody Dixon (184) won by forfeit.

In the Truett-McConnell match, Tristan Powell (133), Pearson, Fontenot and Kori Walker (197) accounted for four pins. Rowlen won by technical fall, Maxwell won by major decision, Beck won by injury forfeit and Robbie McKenna (174) won by forfeit.
