Wrestling team competes in Lower Midwest Regional

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Huntingdon wrestling team competed in the NCAA Division III Lower Midwest Regional on Saturday.

The fifth-year program won four matches, scored six points and finished 17th. Wartburg College won the 17-team Regional with 169.5 points. Loras College was second with 151.5 points. This is Wartburg's seventh straight regional championship.

Three Hawks won at least one match in the Regional. Mason Blakeney won two matches in the 141-pound weight class. Blakeney won a preliminary match by decision before losing by pin in Round 1 of the championship bracket. Blakeney won by pin in the first round of consolation before losing by pin in the second round of consolation.

 Jacob Smith (133 pounds) lost by pin in the first round of the championship bracket before winning by technical fall in the first round consolation. Smith lost by pin in the second round of consolation. 

 Kaleb Fontenot (157) lost by decision in the first round of the championship bracket before winning by decision in the first round of the consolation bracket. Fontenot lost by pin in the second round of consolation.
