Huntingdon competes in Southeast Duals

SALEM, Va.  – The Huntingdon wrestling team competed against two Division III teams and a Division I club team on Saturday in the Southeast Duals.

The Hawks beat Southern Virginia University 29-16 and lost to Averett University 22-18 in their first two matches. Huntingdon lost to Liberty University's club team 40-12 in the final match. Officially, matches against club teams do not count for season results.

Andrew Smith (125 pounds), Quintez Pearson (149), Jayson Spencer (165/174) and Gabriel Pittman (174/184) each went 2-1 in the three matches.

Huntingdon won seven matches against SVU. Kaleb Fontenot (157) won by pin, Quintez Pearson won by technical fall and Spencer (174) won in sudden victory. Michael Mort (141), Kiefer Bangham (165) and Pittman (184) each won by decision and Smith won by forfeit.

The Hawks won five matches against Averett. Joseph Pearson (285) won by pin and Quintez Pearson, Spencer (165), Pittman (174) and Jack Haury (197) each won by decision. In the Liberty match, Smith and Tristan Powell (133) each won by forfeit.
