METZ AND REYNOLDS LEAD HUNTINGDON WOMEN’S SOCCER TO FIRST GSAC WIN

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A pair of freshmen combined for all of Huntingdon's goals in a 4-1 win over Spelman College on Tuesday.

Stephanie Metz scored her first two goals of the season and Katlyn Reynolds scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season to lead the Hawks to their first Great South Athletic Conference win.

"It was important for us to get this win," Metz said. "We want to make it to the conference tournament this year and every conference win is important. We needed this win and now we need to keep improving as we move forward."

Huntingdon improves to 3-2-1 overall and 1-1 in the GSAC. Tuesday also marked the Hawks' first victory over Spelman since 2005. The Jaguars (2-3-1, 0-1) had won nine straight against Huntingdon.

"Spelman has been a thorn in our side in the past and they always give us a good game," Huntingdon head coach Wes Anania said. "We came in with a good plan today, we executed it and we got the win. This was a good opportunity to play a lot of girls and let them gain experience. That experience will help us as we move forward."

Metz opened the scoring 24 minutes into the game before Reynolds added a goal to make it 2-0 at the half. Reynolds scored in the first minute of the second half before Metz closed the scoring for the Hawks, less than 10 minutes into the second half. Kathleen Penney had an assist on the final Huntingdon goal.

Spelman's Brittnee Gillespie scored in the final 10 minutes of the game.

Huntingdon keeper Jenny Burnash had three saves.

The Hawks travel to Birmingham-Southern on Thursday for a 7 p.m. game.
