Lady Hawks developing a new mentality for 2017

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon women's soccer team has a new look this season with almost 30 freshmen on the roster.

With what head coach Matt Gill calls a "hard-working mentality", the Lady Hawks are looking to improve on last season's 3-12-3 record and will be trying to earn a second straight trip to the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.

Huntingdon opens the season this weekend in the Millsaps Tournament. The Lady Hawks play Centenary on Friday at 3 p.m. and Millsaps on Sunday at 10 a.m.

Head Coach Matt Gill on the start of the season: "We are very excited to get the season off to a great start. The girls have really embraced a hard-working mentality and believe each day is a step towards getting better. I know the girls will be prepared and excited to start off on the right foot this year."

Gill on the competitiveness of the preseason: "Every position has competition this year and it has been great to see the girls really embrace the "Play to a Standard" mentality. The new players have really brought in a great energy and attitude as well as excitement to the program that we have not seen in some time."

Gill on the expectations for the opening weekend of the season: "The expectations for the weekend are to play the style of soccer we have been working on the last two weeks in training. We will have several moments in the game we would like to achieve, whether it is scoring first, not allowing a shot or play to win the day. Our team response to the weekend and fighting adversity will be the real test for us this weekend."
