Huntingdon knocks off Berea in first round of USA South tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's soccer team opened the USA South Athletic Conference tournament with a 4-0 win over Berea on Wednesday.

The Lady Hawks will travel to Greensboro for the conference tournament quarterfinals on Saturday. Huntingdon (7-7-3) is the fourth seed in the West Division and Greensboro (16-0-0) is the No. 1 seed in the East Division. Game time is set for noon (Central).

This is the third straight season the Lady Hawks have reached the conference tournament and the second straight season Huntingdon has advanced to the conference quarterfinals.

Against Berea (10-8-0), Huntingdon took the lead in the 17th minute of the game on a penalty kick by Alexis Louk. The Lady Hawks added three goals in the second half.

Elena Guy scored in the 63rd minute to make it a 2-0 game. Huntingdon scored its final two goals in a span of four minutes. Erika Gebhard scored in the 83rd minute and Guy closed the scoring on an assist from Mac Pearson in the 87th minute.

Goalkeeper Kylie Kersh recorded her eighth shutout of the season with five saves in 90 minutes.
