Lady Hawks making progress in preseason

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon volleyball team and men's and women's soccer teams began preseason practice on Aug. 17.

Updates for each team's preseason are being featured this week.

Women's Soccer

The women's soccer team is coming off of back-to-back appearances in the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals.

A year after setting the program's NCAA-era records for wins in a season with 11, the Lady Hawks put together a 7-8-3 season in 2018.

With former assistant coach Cliff Jordan in his first season as head coach, Huntingdon is looking for continued success in 2019.

Huntingdon will hold a home scrimmage against West Alabama on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. before opening the season on Aug. 30 at home against Talladega.

Jordan on the preseason: "My ultimate goal for this preseason, with such a large roster, was to bond the incoming class with the returning class. I am very happy with the way the team has responded to both our training and team bonding events. The incoming class is doing an outstanding job of challenging the status quo and making our program and culture that much better."

Jordan on the scrimmage with Division II West Alabama: "West Alabama will be a great statement game for our players looking to make a name for themselves on the travel roster. We want great programs to come in every preseason to push our team to achieve a higher level of competition. West Alabama is a great measuring stick for us. They are doing great things every year and we look forward to growing with them."

Jordan on new assistant coach Haley Knowles: "I wanted an assistant who believes in the culture and vision I have for the program moving forward and Haley encompasses the same mindset. She comes from an outstanding program at Eckerd College, in an area many of our players are from. Her ability to connect with the players, as well as use her experience of playing in one of the best Division II conferences in the country, will only make our program better."
