Scott sets Huntingdon record for career wins during NCAA era
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon senior Katie Scott wasn't thinking about a milestone win during the Huntingdon women's tennis team's 8-1 win over Schreiner on Wednesday.
But Scott's 8-3 victory with doubles partner Micaela White set the Huntingdon women's record for total career wins during the NCAA era. The win was Scott's 95th singles and doubles victory during her collegiate career. Christian Vick held the previous record of 94.
"It's exciting. When you set goals for yourself and you work hard to reach them, it feels really good to see the hard work pay off," Scott said. "Being part of this program means a lot to me. The team spirit we have is amazing and each girl brings something different to the team. We all support each other and it makes a difference when you know you're teammates are behind you."
With a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles against Schreiner, Scott's career singles and doubles record stands at 96-51. She also holds Huntingdon's record for career singles wins with 54 and is fourth in career doubles victories with 42. She needs eight more wins in doubles to break the Lady Hawks' record.
"This is a great accomplishment for Katie and we are very proud of her," Huntingdon head coach Ximena Moore said. "Katie has been a huge part of this program's success since her freshman season. She has worked extremely hard and she has always been ready to give her all for this team.
"Katie has helped bring regional recognition to the program and she continues to strive for excellence. We are looking forward to seeing her have a strong finish to her senior season and her collegiate career."
In addition to Scott, the Lady Hawks (6-1) picked up singles wins from Britni Thibodeau (No. 2), Taylor Clark (No. 3), White (No. 5) and Rory Wilson (No. 6) on Wednesday. The No. 1 doubles team of Thibodeau-Still and the No. 3 doubles team of Clark-Farrah Mahan also picked up wins.
