Women’s tennis eliminates Piedmont in Rd. 1 of USA South Tournament

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C – The Huntingdon women's tennis team took all three doubles matches and five singles matches to knock off Piedmont 8-1 on Friday in the opening round of the USA South Athletic Conference Tournament.

Hannah Still's 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles clinched the match and helped the Lady Hawks (10-6) redeem themselves from a 5-4 loss to Piedmont on April 2.

Huntingdon built a 3-0 lead with doubles victories from the teams of Britni Thibodeau-Tara-Beth Hall (No. 1), Daniela Lozano-Elayne White (No. 2) and Still-Arielle Barraca (No. 3).

Lozano made it 4-0 with a win at No. 3 singles before Still clinched the match. Thibodeau (No. 1), White (No. 5) and Hall (No. 6) picked up Huntingdon's final three singles victories.

Huntingdon will play No. 1 seed Methodist (20-2) in the conference semifinals on Saturday at 9 a.m. Central.
