Huntingdon closes regular season with win over Maryville

MACON, Ga. – The Huntingdon women's tennis team closed its regular season with an 8-1 USA South Athletic Conference win over Maryville on Sunday.

The Lady Hawks (14-5, 6-1 USA South)  will enter the USA South tournament as the No. 2 seed in the West Division and will play the Avenging Angels of Meredith College (5-11, 5-1 USA South) who is seeded third in the East Division at LaGrange on Thursday at 2 p.m.

Huntingdon took an early 3-0 lead after sweeping doubles play. The No. 1 team of Heather Tabor and Clayton Waring won 8-2, the No. 2 team of Josie Waddell and Caroline McBroom won 8-2 and the No. 3 team of Kacey Stephens and Virginia Gaston won 8-1.

In singles play, the Lady Hawks rolled through the first five positions. Dusty Catala (No. 1) won 6-2, 6-0, Waddell (No. 2) won 6-1, 6-2 and Mariah Bastos (No. 3) won 6-2, 6-1.

Tabor (No. 4) won 6-0, 6-3 and Jordan Fleming (No. 5) won 7-5, 6-4.

No. 6: Joyce Coling (MV) def. Diamond Branch (HC) 6-1, 6-1

 

Doubles

No. 1: Tabor-Clayton Waring (HC) def. Bain-Dickinson (MV) 8-2  

No. 2: Waddell-Caroline McBroom (HC) vs. Wilcox-Stephens (MV) 8-2

No. 3: Kacey Stephens-Virginia Gaston (HC) vs. Francis-Coling (MV) 8-1
