Lady Hawks stumble against Piedmont, knock off MUW
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon women's tennis team lost a conference match and won a non-conference match on Sunday.
In a battle of teams unbeaten in conference play, Huntingdon came up short against Piedmont 6-3. The Lady Hawks closed the day with a 9-0 win over the Mississippi University for Women.
With the loss to Piedmont, Huntingdon (9-3) fell to 4-1 in the USA South Athletic Conference. Piedmont (14-3) sits atop the USA South West Division with a 6-0 record.
With two doubles victories and one singles victory on Sunday, senior Josie Waddell moved into third place in the Lady Hawks' record book for total wins (106) during the NCAA era and moved into a tie for third for doubles wins (51). Waddell, who is just the fourth Lady Hawk to win 100 total matches during the NCAA era, is also third in singles victories (55).
Waddell teamed with Zoya Robinson to earn an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles against Piedmont. In singles, Heather Tabor (No. 4) won 6-2, 6-1 and Lucy Burch (No. 6) won 6-4, 6-8, 10-7.
Against MUW, the doubles teams of Waddell-Robinson (No. 1) and Kacy Howard-Alex Burnham (No. 2) each won 8-0 and the No. 3 team of Tabor-Kacey Stephens won by default.
In singles, Waddell (No. 1), Stephens (No. 2) and Emma Moore (No. 3) each won 8-0 and Ashley Burke (No. 4) won 8-6. Burnham (No. 5) and Burch (No. 6) each won by default.
