Huntingdon volleyball wins fourth straight with Saturday sweep

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon volleyball team pushed its winning streak to four matches with a sweep of Wesleyan and Martin Methodist on Saturday.

The Lady Hawks knocked off conference rival Wesleyan 25-10, 25-11, 25-22 and battled the NAIA RedHawks in five games before a block by Abby Brown and Kali Martin clinched the win. Huntingdon took the final match 14-25, 26-24, 25-21, 22-25, 15-13.

"This was a good weekend for us. We didn't give up today and we won a tough match against Martin Methodist," Huntingdon volleyball coach Amy Patterson said. "The girls are really making strides and improving. I feel like we're really coming together as a team.

"These past few matches have helped us a lot. We've been in tough matches and we've found ways to win. The girls are starting to realize what they're capable of and it is showing."

Brown and Kelly Kahumoku combined for 27 kills against Martin Methodist. Kahumoku had 15 kills and six digs and Brown had 12 kills and four blocks. Brown finished the day with 18 kills, seven blocks and three aces.

Martin recorded 10 kills on the day and had 12 digs against Martin Methodist (5-12).

Bianca Hulsey recorded 55 assists in the two matches, including 35 assists against the RedHawks. Hulsey had five aces against Wesleyan (1-14, 0-5 GSAC).

Lexi Rangel totaled 13 digs in the two matches and had six aces against Martin Methodist. Also against the RedHawks, Ally Brislinger recorded six kills and Storm McWhorter had six digs.

Against Wesleyan, Sam Morris finished with six kills and nine digs and Lauren Rozof added five digs.

Huntingdon (7-9, 4-1 Great South Athletic Conference) hosts LaGrange on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
