Huntingdon takes Maryville to five games

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – The Huntingdon volleyball team lost two matches on Saturday, but the Hawks took two-time defending USA South Athletic Conference champion Maryville to five games in the final match of the day.

Maryville, the preseason favorite in the USA South coaches' poll, lost two of the first three games in the match before rallying to win 25-11, 20-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-12. Huntingdon fell to Covenant 25-15, 25-18, 25-16 in the first match of the day.

For the day, Bria Rochelle led Huntingdon (3-9, 0-2 USA South) with 25 kills, 20 digs and five blocks. Audrianna Hargitt had 19 kills in the two matches, Kalen Morgan finished with 15 kills and six blocks and Cora Murchison totaled 55 assists.

Against Covenant (3-6, 2-1 USA South), Rochelle and Morgan each had seven kills and three blocks and Hargitt added six kills. Murchison finished with 13 assists and Kaitlyn Carter had nine assists. Lexi Rangel had a team-high nine digs.

Against Maryville (4-6, 3-0 USA South), Rochelle recorded 18 kills and 17 digs and Hargitt had 13 kills. Murchison finished with 42 assists and eight digs and Lauren Condon had 12 digs.

Huntingdon hosts Judson and Wesleyan on Tuesday. The Hawks play Judson at 5 p.m. with the Wesleyan match to follow.
