Volleyball splits on opening day of Hawks Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Huntingdon volleyball team lost to LaGrange and beat Agnes Scott on the opening day of the Huntingdon Hawks Volleyball Invitational on Friday.

The Hawks lost 18-25, 17-25 and 20-25 to LaGrange and beat Agnes Scott 23-25, 25-9, 25-22 and 25-19.

Bria Rochelle and Audrianna Hargitt combined for 42 kills and 41 digs in the two matches. Kalen Morgan added 15 kills while Kaitlyn Carter totaled 48 assists and 18 digs on Friday.

Against the Panthers (7-4), Hargitt finished with 10 kills, seven digs and two block assists while Rochelle tallied nine kills, 10 digs and two block assists. Carter had a game-high 30 assists and added 11 digs in the three set loss.

In the four-set win against the Scotties (3-2), Hargitt had a game-high 14 kills and added 13 digs. Morgan finished with 10 kills and assisted on four blocks.

Devyn Stringer had a game-high 22 assists while Carter added 18 assists and seven digs. Rochelle finished the match with nine kills and 11 digs. Shelby Young had a game-high 16 digs while Clayton Waring added eight kills and four digs.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday against Southern University-New Orleans at 5 p.m. and Faulkner at 7 p.m. for day two of the Hawks Invitational.
