Tyma records 1,000th kill but Hawks come up short

LAGRANGE, Ga. – The Huntingdon volleyball team lost a pair of five-game conference matches on Saturday.

The Hawks fell to Maryville 25-16, 23-25, 25-21, 21-25, 16-14 and lost to Berea 21-25, 25-21, 14-25, 25-16, 16-14. The loss to Maryville snapped an eight-match winning streak for the Hawks.

Junior Amy Tyma, who reached 1,000 career digs earlier this season, reached another milestone in the Maryville match with her 1,000th career kill. Tyma is just the third Hawk to reach 1,000 kills since 2006 and is only the second Huntingdon player to record 1,000 kills and 1,000 digs during that time period.

Tyma, Addison Genard and April Reese combined for 88 kills on Saturday and Ashley Murphy had 73 assists. Tyma, Reese, Lauren Hinton and Morgan Ilsley combined for 100 digs Reese and Genard combined for 13 blocks.

Notable: Maryville leads the West Division of the USA South Athletic Conference with a 7-0 conference record. Huntingdon and Covenant are tied for second with 5-2 records and Berea is fourth with a 4-3 conference record.
