Huntingdon cross country wraps up season in Regional

SEGUIN, Texas –The Huntingdon men's and women's cross country teams closed out their seasons on Saturday in the NCAA Division III South/Southeast Regional at Texas Lutheran University.

The women's team finished 26th and had six runners finish between 62nd and 183rd. The men's team only carried two runners, both of whom finished in the top 115.

Emory won the women's 6k race with 45 points and Rhodes was second with 86 points. Emory placed three runners in the Top-9. Mary Baldwin's Sophia Stone won the meet with a time of 22:10.1.

Caitlin McMahon led the Huntingdon women with a time of 25:15 and finished 62nd. Sheaney Marshall was 144th with a time of 27:21.9, Rachael Phillips was 153rd at 27:49.9, Jackie Daniels was 174th at 29:11.3, Brianna McClure was 178th at 29:34.2 and Hannah Still was 183rd at 30:05.8

"It's been a tough year for the women's team, with injuries and illness," Huntingdon cross country coach Nate Rucker said. "We've been through adversity, but it was still a good year. The girls gave a good effort today. These girls have shown up and worked at practice each day and they've shown up ready to run at every meet. As a coach, you can't ask for more."

In the men's 8k meet, Huntingdon seniors Jeff Jenkins and Alex Taylor placed 93rd and 115th respectively. Jenkins, the Great South Athletic Conference Runner of the Year, finished with a time of 29:10.8 and Taylor turned in a time of 30:09.9.

"Both of those guys have worked hard all season," Rucker said. "They gave us everything they had and both of them ran solid races today. For the men and women, being able to run at the regional was a good way to end the year."

Centre's John Kieffer won the men's race with a time of 26:04.5. Lynchburg won the team competition with 112 points. Centre was second with 113 points.
