Student Spotlight -Jordan Alvis

In a new series, Huntingdon Athletics will be featuring student-athletes each week.

Name: Jordan Alvis

Year: Junior

Sport: Women's Lacrosse/Cross Country

Major: Cell Biology

Hometown: Wesley Chapel, Fla.

Why did you choose Huntingdon?

I chose Huntingdon because of the awesome pre-health program. Our science program as a whole is awesome and I knew I wouldn't just be a number. Along with that I had an opportunity to play lacrosse here. Our team was up and coming so I knew that I could really make a difference.

What are your pre-game rituals?

My pregame ritual is very mental. I put my headphones in and sit in my own little world. I like to visualize the game over and over again. More specifically taking the draw. As one of the main draw controllers for our team, I think back to the film watched leading up to the game and think about the different techniques I should use against each one of the other teams' draw controllers.

What is your favorite place to eat in Montgomery and why?

At the moment, my favorite place to eat in Montgomery is Taco Mama. I'm not a big fan of Mexican food but they have create-your-own options, which I love. Their food also tastes so fresh. They have a great atmosphere and are pet friendly so I always get to pet such cute dogs.

Who is your favorite professor and why?

Dr. Dudley is my favorite professor. He just brings such a fun atmosphere to learning and he really cares about all his students.

What class would you never want to take again and why?

I don't think I have taken a class that I would never want to take again except maybe physics. Physics is very confusing and sadly you have to take calculus at the same time so that makes it even more fun.

What is your favorite/least Coach Goodyear/Coach Lowery workout?

My favorite Coach Goodyear/Coach Lowery workout is Lucky 777. This workout really pushes you both mentally and physically. It also helps you gauge where you are and what you need to work on.

If you could play a second sport at Huntingdon, what would it be and why?

I actually already play another sport at Huntingdon. I run cross country in the Fall and play lacrosse in the Spring.

What are your plans after Huntingdon?

My plans, as of right now, for after Huntingdon is to go to medical school at the University of Colorado.

How did you end up at Huntingdon? Recruiting process, visits, academics, etc.

I ended up at Huntingdon because my coach, Coach Stanley, was hard core recruiting me at my lacrosse tournaments and eventually convinced me to come for a visit.

How is Huntingdon preparing you for your career?

Huntingdon has prepared me for my career by giving me endless opportunities to prepare for the MCAT and just life outside of medical school. The school has so many connections that can help you get internships, jobs, etc.

What is your favorite spot on campus and why?

My favorite spot on campus is the green. It's so pretty especially in the spring/summer, you can just sit and enjoy the outdoors.

Rapid Fire:

Emoji: My favorite emoji is the plant emoji that's a little fern in a pot.

Color: I love all neutral colors.

Food: My favorite food is basmati rice or pineapple.

Song: My current favorite song is Here Comes the Sun by the Beatles.

Binge Show: My binge show is definitely Grey's Anatomy.
