Name: Shelby Blair

Year: Senior

Sport: Women's Lacrosse

Major: Biochemistry

Hometown: Indialantic, Fla.

Why did you choose Huntingdon?

I chose Huntingdon because it gave me the opportunity to play the sport I love but also get involved on campus and work towards my goal of becoming a doctor. Also I felt like the moment I stepped on Huntingdon's campus as a freshman I could start making a difference. Every time I visited campus everyone from students to faculty was so helpful and friendly and made me feel like I belonged here.

What are your pre-game rituals?

Before every game I have to listen to my workout music playlist while I drive to the field. I also have to do my game day prep in the same order before every game.

What is your favorite place to eat in Montgomery and why?

My favorite place to eat in Montgomery is Sushi Cafe because Japanese food is my all time favorite. I could eat it every day!

Who is your favorite professor and why?

I actually have two favorite professors- Dr. Dudley and Dr. Mugno. Both always check on me and are genuinely interested about what is going on in my life. Both also make class interesting and fun. And I love that Dr. Dudley comes to our lacrosse games!

What class would you never want to take again and why?

As a Biochemistry major my science classes are usually the most challenging. I think my most challenging classes, however, are going to be this semester with either Analytical Chemistry or Critical Thinking which is basically all the science classes lumped together into one class.

What is your favorite/least favorite Coach Goodyear/Coach Lowery workout?

My favorite Coach Goodyear and Lowry workout is the 5-10-5 shuttle because it correlates a lot to my position in lacrosse which helps me get off the draw circle faster and helps me with my cuts.

If you could play a second sport at Huntingdon, what would it be and why?

Honestly, I would love to play football. I am the biggest college football fan and have wanted to play since I was probably 5. Realistically, if I did another sport it would be soccer because I played competitive/travel soccer most of my life.

What are your plans after Huntingdon?

After Huntingdon, I plan to go to medical school to pursue my dream of becoming a pediatrician. I hope to open a practice in a small underserved community.

How did you end up at Huntingdon?

I first heard about Huntingdon from my childhood friend who went here. Then I got recruited to play lacrosse by Coach Stanley. I came for a visit and met Dr. Murphy who was a Chemistry professor at the time. She told me all about the science program. After that Coach Stanley took me to lunch and told me about the culture here. Meeting him and just feeling like family when I was here confirmed my decision.

How is Huntingdon preparing you for your career?

The science program here is preparing me not only for medical school but to become a great doctor. Lacrosse has taught me a lot about determination, time management and the value of teamwork which will serve me well in my professional and personal life after college.

What is your favorite spot on campus and why?

My favorite spot on campus is probably the lacrosse field because my team is like my family and it is the place where I feel the most like me and I know I am home.
