Huntingdon Beach Volleyball Preseason Report

Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Beach Volleyball has not had a full season since 2019 and they are more than ready.

"This is our first full beach season since spring 2019," Head Coach Latonia Brady said. "It feels like we are starting the program from the ground up, since the majority of our team is brand new or has limited competitive experience at the level we will be playing at."

The Hawks were 2-11 last season with wins against Hendrix and the University of Mobile. In the 2020 season, the Hawks were 5-6 overall with over half of the season being cancelled due to Covid.

Covid

"Our girls are used to adjusting to unforeseen circumstances with a healthy mindset," Brady said. "They understand every opportunity to train is a blessing and we are constantly encouraging hearts of gratitude."

After having 2 seasons impacted by Covid, Huntingdon Beach Volleyball is hoping for a season as close to normal as possible.

Players to Watch

Hawks fans can expect both returning athletes and new players to have an impact this season.

"Audrey Horsley is a sophomore retuner who played in our #1 pair last season," Brady said. "Morgan Ilsley will be competing in her last season of beach and has seen time at the #2 and #3 pair slots.

"Lauren Hinton will be a junior beach athlete who has also contributed in the last two seasons at the #2, #3, and #4 positions," Brady said.

"A newcomer to watch is freshman Veronica Tikhomriovva, who brings high quality beach IQ and experience," Brady said. "Another newcomer to watch is junior transfer Samantha Singleton. She plays the game with ease, understands how to be an offensive threat, and will be able to make any partner better.

Expectations

"The AVCA has now created a NCAA Division 3 championship for our post season so we are focused on improving from dual to dual against established programs to ensure we are ready in April," Brady said.

The Hawks are hosting the Huntingdon Beach Bash on March 10-13 in addition to 2 weekends of duals.

"We are excited to be able to host several home duals and tournament opportunities for fans to come out and watch," Brady said.

Huntingdon Beach Volleyball opens their season on Friday, February 18th, when they host duals against St. Andrews and Mobile. For the full schedule and roster information, visit https://www.huntingdonhawks.com/sports/beachvball/index.
