Huntingdon Softball Preseason Report

Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Softball is counting down the days until game day, quickly approaching on February 12th.

After going 16-18 overall in the 2020-21 season, including 11-3 in conference, the Hawks are hoping to continue to build and grow with the new players that have joined the team this season.

Players to Watch

Huntingdon Softball has added multiple transfers and freshmen that join a core returning group expected to have a big impact.

"New names to watch for this year are Bailey Murphy and Natalie Ritchey, who are transfers from Central Alabama Community College," Chrietzberg said. "They have stepped up and added a lot to our team already this year.

Chrietzberg said, "We have also added Crimson Wells and Katelyn Holcombe, who are transfer pitchers we received this year that we are counting on adding depth to our pitching staff"

"Our returners Brooke Stefankiewicz, who was last year's conference Rookie of the Year, which we are looking to for big things, along with Lydia Lewis, Emily Nieuwstraten and as well as Holly Sharp on the mound," Chrietzberg said.

Expectations

"My expectations are to just simply perform every play in the games as you do in practice," Chrietzberg said. "To be able to decrease pressure, to play to a high standard that we enforce every day at practice, and at the end of the day, game, and season, I think we will be happy with our results.  We have tried to make practices fun but focused and therefore want to transfer those things into game days."

Hawk fans can expect an exciting atmosphere at the Lucinda Samford Cannon Softball Field.

"What you can expect to see this season is an aggressive team," Chrietzberg said. "We hope to be a fun team to watch with our aggressiveness on the bases, we have added more power at the plate this year and also will be more dominant on the mound."
