Huntingdon Baseball Preseason Report

Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Baseball has added 14 freshmen to join 11 seniors ready to take on the 2022 season and have an impact.

In the 2020-21 season, the Hawks were 13-19 overall and 4-10 in conference. In 32 games, Huntingdon totaled 315 hits, 205 runs, 11 home runs, and a .387 team on-base percentage.

Players to Watch

"We have a couple returners that we need to not just play well but to handle things from a leadership standpoint correctly," Head Coach DJ Conville said.

"Andrew Knight, Colton Clark, and Dawson Kuba. They need to play that [leadership] role for us. We also have a couple newcomers that we are excited to see what they can bring to the program," Conville said.

Last season, Kuba batted .312 with 24 hits. Knight ended the season with a .322 batting average, 25 runs, and 4 homeruns. Clark batted .356 with 47 hits, 28 runs, and 21 RBI.

Expectations

"I expect us to play hard, play with toughness, and to improve as we go," Conville said. "If we can do those things we will have a chance to reach some goals and expectations."

Hawks fans can expect a full season with excitement and competition, including the Firehouse Classic Tournament on February 18th-20th, against Mt. St. Joseph, Virginia Wesleyan, and Mississippi University for Women.

In addition to USA South Conference opponents, the Hawks will take on Mount St. Joseph, Emory, Oglethorpe, Edgewood, Hampden-Sydney, Berry, Millsaps, and Centenary.

"I do believe we will be fun to watch," Conville said. "I am excited about the possibility of having a fairly regular season and to have our program back practicing, training, and playing the way we have over my years here. The program needs that, the players need that, we all need it. And we have a good time competing."

Huntingdon Baseball will be playing in the Millsaps Baseball Classic on February 10th-13th. For the full schedule and roster information, visit https://www.huntingdonhawks.com/sports/bsb/index
