Huntingdon Women's Tennis Preseason Report

Montgomery, Ala.-The Huntingdon Women's Tennis team has a new coach and new mindset to be better each day. Head Coach Justin McQueen has returned to his alma mater and his first season as head coach, takes on a team looking to return to the USA South Conference Tournament.

The Hawks ended last season 11-5 overall and 6-2 in conference for a 2nd place finish in the USA South standings. Huntingdon fell to Piedmont in the first round of the USA South Tournament.

This is the first team in 20 years that Ximena Moore will not lead the Women's Tennis program after her retirement in September of 2021. However, Justin McQueen is ready for the challenge.

"I remember the excitement of the season coming and thinking what can I do to get better each day. I'm most excited about the competition, getting to know the team, and seeing how we can get better each day," McQueen said

Players to Watch

The Hawks added only 2 freshmen and have just one senior on a team looking to surpass their own expectations and return to the USA South Conference Tournament.

"We have great players across the board," Head Coach Justin McQueen said. "I am going to say Kennedy Harp and Madeline Creel are players to watch. I view them as great leaders and players for this team. I am excited to see them go out and compete this season."

Expectations

"The only expectation I have of this team is to improve each day, and to be better at the end of the season than we currently are now," McQueen said. "If we can do that, then the results will speak for themselves."

In addition to USA South Conference opponents, the Hawks will take on Division II universities Tuskegee, Albany State, and Shorter, Division III opponents Oglethorpe, Belhaven, Mississippi University for Women, Birmingham Southern, and NAIA opponent Point University.

Hawks fans can "expect to see a team of great players go out and compete to the best of their ability each match," McQueen said. "This team hits the ball very well and is entertaining to watch."
