MEN'S BASKETBALL

Men's Basketball Player of the Week
Kyle Brown, LaGrange - The senior forward from Dallas, Georgia averaged 29.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per game as the Panthers posted a 2-0 record against USA South competition last week. In a 94-75 win against Huntingdon, Brown totaled 31 points, four rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block. In an 81-71 victory at Brevard, Brown notched a double-double of 28 points and 14 rebounds to go along with two steals and one assist. Also Nominated: Dante Burden, Methodist; Damon McDowell, N.C. Wesleyan; Conner Marchant, Southern Virginia; Chris Barnette, Covenant; Chancey Watson, Brevard; Jordan Lewis, Averett.

Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Zach Fullagar, Mary Baldwin - The freshman forward from Melbourne, Australia posted a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds in the team's only game of last week, a 108-90 loss to Pfeiffer. Fullagar also added two assists and two blocks in the defeat. Also Nominated: Garrett Sutherland, Brevard; Jem Lowrance, Averett.

 

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Demet Saygili, Mary Baldwin - The senior guard from Iskenderun, Turkey scored a season-high 28 points in the team's only regular season game of last week, a 73-61 win over Methodist. Saygili also added seven rebounds, four assists, and four steals in the victory. Also Nominated: Savanna Christensen, Southern Virginia; Livia Skinner, Piedmont; Tyler Davenport, Salem; Makenna Parkins, Brevard.

Women's Basketball Rookie of the Week
Taylor Miyasaki, Southern Virginia - The freshman guard from Eagle Mountain, Utah scored a career-high 14 points in the team's only game of last week, a 106-55 win over Salem. Miyasaki also added four rebounds and one assist in the victory. Also Nominated: Tamsi Echendu, Salem.

 

BASEBALL

Baseball Player of the Week
Andrew Knight, Huntingdon - The senior catcher from Vestavia Hills, Alabama went a combined 9-for-13 (.692) with a .733 on-base percentage, and a 1.538 slugging percentage to go along with eight runs scored, seven RBI, two doubles, three home runs, and one stolen base as the Hawks posted a 3-0 record last week. In wins over Mt. St. Joseph, Virginia Wesleyan, and Mississippi University for Women, Knight accumulated three hits in each game, at least two runs scored and two RBI in each, while slugging two home runs against Mt. St. Joseph. Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Matthew Scavotto, Brevard - The sophomore from Tampa, Florida tossed five-shutout innings as the starter in his only appearance last week for the Tornados, an 8-7 win over Washington & Lee. Scavotto allowed three hits with two walks and two strike outs. Also Nominated: Aaron Northcutt, Covenant; Peyton Irvin, Piedmont; Bryce Leonhardt, Maryville; Avery Spicer, Averett; Chandler Padgett, N.C. Wesleyan.

Baseball Rookie of the Week
Jorge Fragoso, LaGrange - The freshman outfielder from East Point, Georgia went a combined 5-for-9 (.556) with a .600 on-base percentage, and a .556 slugging percentage to go along with three runs scored, five RBI, and one walk as the Panthers posted a 4-0 record last week. In a 12-9 win over Berry, Fragoso was a perfect 2-for-2 with one run scored and three RBI. In a three-game sweep of Spalding, Fragoso appeared in two games and was a combined 3-for-7 with two runs scored, two RBI, and one walk. Also Nominated: Chris Savage, Covenant; Kyle Carlson, Piedmont; Kevin Zischke, Averett; Marcelo Manrique, Berea.

Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
Braden Simms, Piedmont - The freshman from Oakwood, Georgia earned his first collegiate win and appeared in two games last week for the Lions. Simms tossed eight total innings and allowed three runs on seven hits with three walks and nine strikeouts. In a 5-3 win over Oglethorpe, Simms got the start and went five innings, allowing one run on three hits with zero walks and six strikeouts. Also Nominated: Austin Suttle, Maryville.

 

SOFTBALL

Softball Player of the Week
Candice Smith, William Peace - The senior first baseman from Roanoke Rapids, Virginia was a combined 11-for-14 (.786) with a .800 on-base percentage and a 1.500 slugging percentage to go along with eight runs scored, ten RBI, one double, three home runs, one walk, and one stolen base as the Pacers posted a 4-0 record last week. In a doubleheader sweep of St. Augustine's, Smith was a combined 5-for-8 with four runs scored, five RBI, two home runs, and one stolen base. In a doubleheader sweep of Guilford, Smith was a combined 6-for-7 with four runs scored, five RBI, one double, one home run, and one walk. Also Nominated: Vanessa Davis, Covenant; Jenica Brown, Maryville; Madison Henry, Piedmont; Taylor Hannah, Brevard; Maria Kollar, Methodist; Chloe Horton, Averett; Annie Nolan, Huntingdon; Alyssa Drake, Meredith.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Katelyn Holcombe, Huntingdon - The junior from Kimberly, Alabama earned two wins over preseason top-five ranked teams in DePauw (#1) and Birmingham Southern (#5) last week. In three appearances, two starts, Holcombe earned a 2-0 record and a 4.47 ERA while tossing 15.2 innings with six strikeouts. Her win over top-ranked DePauw was of the complete-game variety, allowing three runs with zero walks and two strikeouts. Also Nominated: Katherine Murphy, William Peace; Martina Maloch, Piedmont; Kaitlynn Farmer, Brevard; Taylor Sullivan, Averett.

Softball Rookie of the Week
Taryn Shelton, William Peace - The freshman infielder from Mebane, North Carolina went a combined 5-for-8 (.625) with a .600 on-base percentage and an .875 slugging percentage to go along with three runs scored, three RBI, two doubles, one walk, and one stolen base last week as the Pacers posted a 4-0 record last week. In a doubleheader sweep of St. Augustine's, Shelton was a combined 1-for-3 with one run scored, one run batted in, one walk, and one stolen base. In a doubleheader sweep of Guilford, Shelton was a combined 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Also Nominated: Kathleen Carpenter, Covenant; Brecca Williams, Maryville; Kathleen Maijala, Piedmont; Mercedes Barker, Agnes Scott; Hannah Jones, Averett; Jessie Woller, Meredith.

Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
Alexis Upton, William Peace - The freshman from Hampton, Virginia earned a two wins in each of her two starts last week for the Pacers, victories over St. Augustine's and Guilford. In eight total innings pitched, Upton posted a 6.13 ERA with two walks and four strikeouts. Also Nominated: Madison Adams, Averett; Grace Reynolds, Brevard.

 

MEN'S LACROSSE

Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week
Brewer Warlick, William Peace - The Wilmington, North Carolina senior attackman scored seven goals in a season-opening, 14-8, win over Bethany, the team's only contest so far this spring. Warlick also added one ground ball in the victory. Also Nominated: Ian Bruggeman, Huntingdon; Hunter Vaughan, Methodist; Shawn Lamb, Southern Virginia; Avery Jenks, Piedmont; Aidan Story, LaGrange; Andrew McDonald, Brevard; Connor Taff, Averett.

Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Devin McCarragher, Brevard - The Sharpsburg, Georgia senior goalkeeper did all he could in a 6-4 loss to Ferrum, the Tornados only contest to begin the spring. McCarragher saved 15 shots and also collected eight ground balls in the defeat. Also Nominated: Cameron Brink, Methodist; Michael Brown, Southern Virginia; Johnny Matrona, Piedmont; Isaac Bohrer, LaGrange; Caleb Chester, Averett.

Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Brennon Madonia, Huntingdon - The Dacula, Georgia freshman midfielder/faceoff specialist totaled 24 ground balls with a .556 faceoff percentage last week as the Hawks posted a 1-1 record. In a 14-11 loss to Dallas, Madonia was 8-of-23 in faceoffs with five ground balls. In a 15-14 victory over Centenary, Madonia was 22-of-31 in faceoffs with 19 ground balls. Also Nominated: Aidan Story, LaGrange; Finnegan McCormack, Brevard; Dawson Hobbs, Averett.

 

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week
KC Collins, Brevard - The Marietta, Georgia senior midfielder established new career-highs with six goals and four assists in a season-opening, 21-3, win over Sweet Briar, the team's only contest so far this spring. Collins also added five ground balls, one draw control, and one caused turnover in the victory. Also Nominated: Alexis Murriel, Pfeiffer; Payton Jones, Methodist; Elizabeth Peasley, Averett.

Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Lexi Maclauchlin, Brevard - The McDonough, Georgia freshman goalkeeper played all 60 minutes and made seven saves in a season-opening, 21-3, win over Sweet Briar, the team's only contest so far this spring. Also Nominated: Jordan Pendergraft, Pfeiffer; Morgan Coppini, Huntingdon; Kaylee Joblon, Averett.

Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Reagan Bullock, Huntingdon - The Daphne, Alabama freshman midfielder has totaled ten points on nine goals and one assist, to go along with 18 ground balls, two draw controls, and one caused turnover, as the Hawks have begun the season with a 1-1 record. In a 17-11 loss to Oglethorpe, Bullock scored six goals with two ground balls and two draw controls. In a 15-4 win over Brenau, Bullock scored three times with one assist while adding 16 ground balls and one caused turnover. Also Nominated: Chloe Johnson, Pfeiffer; Kaylee Moreland, Piedmont; Emily Denaga, Brevard; Faith Bowlin, Averett.

 

MEN'S TENNIS

Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Jhonny Acosta, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior from Ita, Paraguay has earned 3-1 singles and doubles record so far this spring at the top-spots for the Battling Bishops. In singles, Acosta has wins over tenth-ranked Southwestern, Washington & Lee, and Belmont Abbey while his lone loss was to Division-I Wake Forest. In doubles, he has teamed with Juan Vallejo for the same results against the teams he faced in singles. Also Nominated: Jordan Theron, Methodist; Patrick Dempsey, Piedmont; Austin Dreslinski, Covenant; Jay Trip, Averett; Noah Lewis, Brevard.

Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Diego Segovia, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from San Gabriel, Venezuela has earned a 4-1 singles record with a 1-0 doubles mark so far this spring at various spots for the Battling Bishops. Segovia has wins over tenth-ranked Southwestern, Washington & Lee, Belmont Abbey, and Barton while the lone loss was to Division-I Wake Forest. In doubles, Segovia teamed with Roberto Puig for a win over Barton. Also Nominated: Jay Trip, Averett; Noah Lewis, Brevard.

Men's Doubles Team of the Week
Jhonny Acosta and Juan Pablo Vallejo, N.C. Wesleyan - The Battling Bishop duo has earned a 3-1 record at the number-one doubles position to begin the spring season. The wins have come over tenth-ranked Southwestern, Washington & Lee, and Belmont Abbey while the lone loss was to Division-I Wake Forest. Also Nominated: Luke laney and Henry Murray, Methodist; Camden Lashley and Ben Luke, Covenant; Stan Martherus and Jay Trip, Averett; Devin Horton and James Srsich, Brevard.
