Huntingdon Football Announces 2022 Schedule

Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon College Athletics has released the 2022 Football schedule.

The defending USA South Conference champions are looking for a repeat this year after coming off of an 8-3 season that included an undefeated conference run and an NCAA playoff appearance.

In addition to the 7 USA South Conference games, including the recent conference addition of Belhaven, the Hawks will face non-conference opponents Linfield, Guilford, and in-state rival Birmingham-Southern.

The Hawks first game against Linfield, a member of the Northwest Conference, is at Samford Stadium on September 3rd and is the first ever meeting between the two 2021 NCAA Division III playoff participants. #5 ranked Linfield, out of McMinnville, Oregon, was 11-1 last season, falling only to Mary Hardin-Baylor in the quarterfinals.

In-state rival #18 ranked BSC, part of the Southern Athletic Association, ended last season 10-2, after defeating the Hawks at home on Sep. 11th and again in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs. The Hawks will travel to Birmingham on Sep. 10th before facing Guilford on the road on Sep. 17th.

Guilford, 1-8 last season, is a familiar opponent for the Hawks. On September 7th, 2019, the Hawks defeated Guilford at home, 69-43. Guilford is a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference. The Hawks are 1-1 against Guilford, suffering a loss on September 2nd, 2017, 38-24.

"This schedule is obviously challenging," Head Coach Mike Turk said. "We have always attempted to use the first part of our season to sharpen our edge and prepare us for our conference season, and the first 3 opponents next fall will certainly provide those opportunities for us."

The Hawks will open USA South Conference play against Belhaven on Sep. 24th before traveling to Maryville on Oct. 1st. Brevard will travel to Montgomery for a home game on Oct. 15th before the Hawks take a trip to Methodist on Oct. 22nd. The Hawks will close out the month of October at home against Greensboro.

Huntingdon will travel to NC Wesleyan at the start of November for a game on Nov 5th but will return home to close out the regular season on Nov. 12th against LaGrange.

"We will begin conference play with a new conference member, which provides many challenges on its own, but they are also a very strong program that is on the rise," Turk said. "Within our conference, we know that we will always get everyone's best shot, so there are plenty of reasons for us to be doing all that we can between now and then to be as ready as we can be.  We cannot afford to waste a day as we prepare."
