Division III Week Student Spotlight - Anna Vaughn

Name: Anna Vaughn

Year: Senior

Sport: Softball

Major: Psychology

Hometown: Alabaster, Ala.

Why did you choose Huntingdon?

I finished my time at LBWCC when COVID shut everything down, and I thought softball was over for me. The way I got reached by Huntingdon softball was a complete "Jesus moment;" it was completely unexpected and there was no denying that I needed to come spend my next two years here.

What are your pre-game rituals?

One of my favorite things about game-days is always giving Emma Spurlin the biggest hug before we play!

I always do my hair the same way if we have been playing well, and I only change it if we have a bad game.

What is your favorite place to eat in Montgomery and why?

I love to go eat at Sol! I could eat Mexican food 7 days a week, and their pollo loco is my favorite.

Who is your favorite professor and why?

Dr. Mugno and Dr. Copping both have a special place in my heart. As a psychology major, they teach all of my favorite classes, and they have such genuine hearts for each of their students, which is what I really love about them! They have both challenged me and prepared me for what comes after Huntingdon.

What class challenged you the most and why?

Physiological Psychology has probably been the most challenging class that I've taken. As a psychology major, I got done with most science classes years ago, so this class is really making me think back on things I learned quite some time ago.

What is your favorite/least Coach Goodyear/Coach Lowery workout?

I love any and all versions of hang clean workouts that we do as a team.

I have a love/hate relationship with Lucky 777's. To see the girls on our team push through this workout is really amazing to me, but it's also a very rough 10 minutes!

If you could play a second sport at Huntingdon, what would it be and why?

Soccer! My younger sister plays college soccer, and during our breaks from school I love to go out and practice with her.

What are your plans after Huntingdon?

I am going to grad school after Huntingdon to get my Master's in Counseling, hoping to become a school counselor!

How did you end up at Huntingdon? Recruiting process, visits, academics, etc.

My recruiting story is unlike most people at Huntingdon. I played two years at Lurleen B Wallace CC, and both seasons we played against Huntingdon as an exhibition game. Soon after we played here sophomore year, COVID ended our season, and I thought I was done playing for good. A few days later, Coach Taylor (also a Huntingdon alumna) texted me and told me that Coach Casey had asked about me after our games and gave me her number if I was interested. I didn't give it a second thought before I texted and told her I wanted to come finish my career at Huntingdon; I even verbally committed before ever touring the campus!

How is Huntingdon preparing you for your career?

Everything at Huntingdon has been geared toward life after college. Classes, luncheons, meetings, everything has played a role in getting me ready for what comes next. I think what has really prepared me to leave Huntingdon and enter the "real world" is that I know that the people I have met and the connections that I have made while I've been here will stay with me, no matter where life takes me next.

What is your favorite spot on campus and why?

I really love to sit at the picnic tables on The Green! They are the perfect place to study when the weather is nice, and sitting there, I get to look at all the beauty around our campus and really take in how lucky I am to be here.
