Division III Week Student Spotlight - Alonda Weaver

Name: Alonda Weaver

Year: Junior

Sport: Women's Tennis

Major: Biology

Hometown: Columbus, Georgia

Why did you choose Huntingdon?

My high school coach told me the tennis team was really good and has a great Biology program (and I found both to be true).

What are your pre-game rituals?

I always try to listen to songs that will pump me up and/or have positive lyrics to give me energy and confidence before getting on the court and warming up with my teammates.

What is your favorite place to eat in Montgomery and why?

It's between La Zona and Sushi Café. Both have great service and amazing food! I love La Zona because it's where my teammates and I would have team dinners together. I love Sushi Café because I love sushi in general and the times I've gone there were to celebrate special occasions.

Who is your favorite professor and why?

My favorite professor is Dr. Dudley because he's really kind and still talks to me even though I haven't been in a class he teaches in over a year. He also comes to our tennis matches!

What class challenged you the most and why?

Organic Chemistry has been (and still is) my biggest challenge. The entire course keeps building on the information learned and not understanding those different topics can take a toll on your grade.

What is your favorite/least Coach Goodyear/Coach Lowery workout?

My favorite workouts are Target Squats.

If you could play a second sport at Huntingdon, what would it be and why?

I'd want to play volleyball because it's something I wanted to play in high school, but their season was at the same time as tennis and tennis was something I already knew how to play.

What are your plans after Huntingdon?

I plan to attend med school somewhere in Georgia to eventually become a pediatrician.

How did you end up at Huntingdon? Recruiting process, visits, academics, etc.

My high school coach knew the former coach (Ximena Moore) and set up a visit so I could come to a tennis match. I talked to her for the first time and also met Dr. Dudley, who told me more about the Biology program.

How is Huntingdon preparing you for your career?

Its' home-like atmosphere is the example I want to follow in how I would want my future patients to feel when they come to see me.

What is your favorite spot on campus and why?

I love the green. It's a beautiful spot to relax and eat. I love the open space and it's especially pretty during the spring and summer.
