BASEBALL

Baseball Player of the Week
Joe Ruth, LaGrange - The junior infielder from Chiefland, Florida went a combined 12-for-21 (.571) with a .522 on-base percentage and a 1.333 slugging percentage to go along with nine runs scored, 16 RBI, two doubles, one triple, four home runs, two stolen bases, and two sacrifice flies as the Panthers posted a 3-1 record last week. In a 20-9 win over Oglethorpe, Ruth was 5-for-6 with four runs scored, eight RBI, one double, one triple, and three home runs. Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Eddie Patterson, Huntingdon - The junior from Foley, Alabama tossed a complete-game two-hit shutout in a 3-0 win over USA South rival Brevard in his only appearance last week for the Hawks. He allowed just three walks and stuck out five batters in the victory. Baseball Rookie of the Week
Preston Robbins, Averett - The freshman catcher from Chesterfield, Virginia went a combined 5-for-11 (.455) with a .500 on-base percentage and a .909 slugging percentage to go along with two runs scored, one run batted in, three doubles, one triple, and one walk as the Cougars were swept in a three-game series by USA South foe Methodist last week. Also Nominated: Michael Vazquez, Berea; Jackson Randolph, Piedmont; Frankie Vasquez, Brevard.

Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
Hunter Hill, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Asheboro, North Carolina earned a 1-0 record in two relief appearances last week for the Battling Bishops. Hill tossed four shutout innings, allowing two hits without a walk and four strikeouts. His victory came in a 3-2 win over USA South Greensboro as he tossed two shutout innings. Also Nominated: Nic Mirabella, Maryville, Nathan Comer, Averett; Chase Carroll, Methodist.

Softball Player of the Week
Kaitlin Isley, Piedmont - The junior utility player from Acworth, Georgia was a combined 8-for-11 (.727), with an .813 on-base percentage, and a 1.273 slugging percentage to go along with eight runs scored, eight RBI, three doubles, one home run, one walk, and three stolen bases as the Lions posted a 4-0 record against USA South competition last week. In a doubleheader sweep of Brevard, Isley was a combined 4-for-6 with five runs scored, three RBI, two doubles, one home run, one walk, and one stolen base. Cheyanne Cox, Greensboro - The senior from Burlington, North Carolina earned a 2-0 record in two appearances, both starts, last week for the Pride. In complete-game wins over USA South foes N.C. Wesleyan and Averett, Cox totaled 13.0 innings pitched and compiled a 0.54 ERA by allowing one run on six hits with eight walks and 26 strikeouts. Softball Rookie of the Week
Lauren Kay, Covenant - The freshman infielder from Chattanooga, Tennessee was a combined 18-for-23 (.783) with an .800 on-base percentage and a 1.739 slugging percentage to go along with 17 runs scored, ten RBI, five doubles, one triple, five home runs, two walks, and one stolen base as the Scots posted a 3-3 record against USA South competition last week. In a doubleheader sweep of Berea, Kay was a perfect 9-for-9 with seven runs scored, nine RBI, two doubles, four home runs, and one stolen base. In a doubleheader split with Maryville, Kay was a combined 4-for-7 with four runs scored, one run batted in, one double, one triple, and one home run. Emily Humphrey, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Winston-Salem, North Carolina earned a 2-0 record in two appearances, both starts, last week for the Battling Bishops. In complete-game wins over USA South foes Greensboro and Southern Virginia, Humphrey totaled 14.0 innings pitched and compiled a 1.00 ERA by allowing two runs on seven hits with four walks and nine strikeouts. MEN'S LACROSSE

Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week
Quinn Becraft, Pfeiffer - The Huntersville, North Carolina sophomore attackman totaled 18 points on 14 goals and four assists, to go along with two ground balls as the Falcons posted a 2-0 record last week against USA South competition. In a 24-7 win over Brevard, Becraft scored nine goals with one ground ball. In a 20-11 victory over LaGrange, Becraft scored five times with four assists, and one ground ball. Also Nominated: Paul Gordon, Huntingdon; Drew Von Werne, William Peace; Brady McGuire, Piedmont; Connor Taff, Averett; Andrew McDonald, Brevard; Tennison Schmidt, Southern Virginia.

Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Jacob Gravely, Brevard - The Monroe, North Carolina sophomore defender totaled eight caused turnovers, ten ground balls, and one assist in a 1-1 week for the Tornados against USA South competition. In a 24-7 loss to Pfeiffer, posted co-game highs of three three caused turnovers and five ground balls to go along with one assist. In a 9-6 win over Averett, Gravely caused a game-high five turnovers while also grabbing five ground balls. Also Nominated: Matthew Liquori, Methodist; Jordan Fitzpatrick, Pfeiffer; Johnny Matrona, Piedmont; Marques Fleming, Averett; Jaydon Arnold, Southern Virginia; Chris Stallings, Greensboro.

Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Gabe King, Southern Virginia - The Heber City, Utah freshman attackman totaled ten points on seven goals and three assists, to go along with four ground balls and one caused turnover as the Knights posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 20-11 loss to Mary Washington, King scored twice with one assist. In a 24-11 victory over USA South foe Methodist, King compiled five goals, two assists, four ground balls and one caused turnover. Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week
Elizabeth Peasley, Averett - The Wilmington, North Carolina senior midfielder totaled 15 points on ten goals and five assists, to go along with 18 draw controls, 14 ground balls, and six caused turnovers last week as the Cougars posted a 2-0 record. In a 24-0 win over Hollins, Peasley scored five times with four assists, nine draw controls, eight ground balls, and three caused turnovers. In a 17-3 victory over USA South foe Huntingdon, Peasley scored five goals with one assist, nine draw controls, six ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Also Nominated: Keegan Foyles, Methodist; Alexis Murriel, Pfeiffer; Cara Crump, Piedmont; Alissa Johnson, Southern Virginia.

Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Julee Delellis, Methodist - The Hackettstown, New Jersey senior midfielder totaled six caused turnovers, 13 draw controls, ten ground balls, and three goals as the Monarchs posted a 2-0 record last week against USA South competition. In a 21-12 win over Pfeiffer, Delellis compiled four caused turnovers, nine draw controls, six ground balls, and one goal. In a 22-7 victory over N.C. Wesleyan, Delellis caused two turnovers with four ground balls, four draw controls, and two goals. Also Nominated: Alexis Murriel, Pfeiffer; Kellianne Schlosser, Piedmont; Faith Bowlin, Averett; Chloe Mitchell, Southern Virginia.

Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Faith Bowlin, Averett - The Abingdon, Maryland freshman attacker totaled 11 points on eight goals and three assists, to go along with 14 ground balls, nine draw controls, and three caused turnovers as the Cougars posted a 2-0 record last week. In a 24-0 win over Hollins, Bowlin scored four times with three assists, seven ground balls, and six draw controls. In a 17-3 victory over USA South foe Huntingdon, Bowling scored four goals with seven ground balls, three draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Also Nominated: Erika Henry, Methodist; Analise Robinson, Pfeiffer; Merryn Bumpass, Piedmont; Adelaide Smith, Southern Virginia.

 

MEN'S TENNIS

Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Jhonny Acosta, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior from Ita, Paraguay earned a 2-0 singles record with a 3-2 doubles mark, all at the number-one position, last week for the Battling Bishops. In singles, Acosta defeated the top player from Division II's Mount Olive as well as the 15th-ranked player in Division III's Atlantic South Region from USA South foe Averett. In doubles, Acosta teamed with Juan Pablo Vallejo to gain a win over opposition from USA South foe Averett then teamed with Diego Segovia to collect wins over Division II Shaw and Hampden Sydney. Also Nominated: Ben Luke, Covenant; Chris Bale, Piedmont; Marcos Dias, Southern Virginia; Jorge Figueroa, Averett; James Srsich, Brevard.

Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Alberto Nunez, Piedmont - The freshman from Lima, Peru earned a win at both the top singles and doubles spots against opposition from USA South rival LaGrange in the only match last week for the Lions. In doubles, Nunez teamed with Houston Medlock to grab the victory. Also Nominated: Diego Segovia, N.C. Wesleyan; Shori Nishizoe, Averett.

Men's Doubles Team of the Week
Roberto Puig and Max Robinson, N.C. Wesleyan - The Battling Bishop duo earned a 4-1 record last week versus all at the number-two position. The wins came over opposition from Shaw, Mount Olive, USA South foe Averett, and Hampden-Sydney. The lone loss was to Division-I, seventh-ranked, Wake Forest. Also Nominated: Gill Dunn and Ethan Gibson, Covenant; Houston Medlock and Alberto Nunez, Piedmont; Tanner Bassett and Daniel Blonquist, Southern Virginia; Jorge Figueroa and Shori Nishizoe, Averett.

 

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Maxence Lippens, Averett - The freshman from Gent, Belgium earned a win at both the number-one singles and doubles spots against opposition from USA South rival N.C. Wesleyan in the only match last week for the Cougars. In doubles, Lippens teamed with Linnea Sjostrom Krook to earn the win. Additionally, Averett defeated N.C. Wesleyan, 9-0, to give the Cougars the first win over the Battling Bishops since the 2009 season. Also Nominated: Madelyn Savage, Covenant; Maggie Moody, Piedmont; Ashley Linden, Salem; Paula Snelson, Southern Virginia; Toni Laney, Methodist.

Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week

Maxence Lippens and Linnea Sjostrom Krook, Averett - The Cougar duo earned a win at the number-one doubles position last week against opposition from USA South foe N.C. Wesleyan which helped the Cougars secure the first team win over the Battling Bishops since the 2009 season. Also Nominated: Allison Dempsey and Abbey Grace Venham, Piedmont; Paula Snelson and Jillian Arnold, Southern Virginia.

 

MEN'S TRACK & FIELD

Men's Track Athlete of the Week
Drew Topoly, Methodist - The junior from Smithfield, North Carolina set a new personal best in his only event at the Mount Olive Trojan Relays last week, the 1,500 meters, with a time of 3:57.93. Also Nominated: Jo'Sean Artis, William Peace; George Wells, Brevard.

Men's Field Athlete of the Week
Kenneth Wilkes, William Peace - The sophomore from Asheville, North Carolina competed at the Mount Olive Trojan Relays last week in two events. In the triple jump, Wilkes' best attempt was 13.80 meters while in the javelin, his best throw was 45.68 meters. Also Nominated: Aaron Nash, Methodist; Jerome Bass, Brevard.

Men's Track Rookie of the Week
Noah Norman, Covenant - The freshman from Lookout Mountain, Georgia set a new personal best in his only event at the Berry Field Day Invitational last week, the 200 meters, with a time of 22.82. Also Nominated: Sean Todd, William Peace. 

Men's Field Rookie of the Week
Aaron Nash, Methodist - The freshman from Powhatan, Virginia set a new personal best in his only event at the Mount Olive Trojan Relays last week, the long jump, with a mark of 6.99 meters. Also Nominated: Justin Scott, William Peace.

 

WOMEN'S TRACK & FIELD

Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Mariah Brooks, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Lawrenceville, Georgia competed at the Mount Olive Trojan Relays last week in two events. In the 100 meters, Brooks finished in a time of 12.19 while also helping the 4x100 meter relay team post a time of 50.40. Also Nominated: Courtney Drumm, Methodist; Shawntez Mickens, William Peace; Julie Tonon, Meredith; Elysse Carrillo, Covenant.

Women's Field Athlete of the Week
Myla Barnes, William Peace - The senior from Dayton, Ohio competed at the Mount Olive Trojan Relays last week in three events. The highlight of Barnes' competition was setting a new program record in the discus with a throw of 39.48 meters. Barnes also competed in the shot put (10.30 meters) and the hammer throw (34.12 meters). Also Nominated: Lusiana Mailakeba, Methodist; Jae Woods, Covenant; Avery Lockwood, Brevard.

Women's Track Rookie of the Week
Mariah Brooks, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Lawrenceville, Georgia competed at the Mount Olive Trojan Relays last week in two events. In the 100 meters, Brooks finished in a time of 12.19 while also helping the 4x100 meter relay team post a time of 50.40. Also Nominated: Channing Barker, Brevard.

Women's Field Rookie of the Week
Jae Woods, Covenant - The freshman from Lake Mary, Florida competed at the Berry Field Day Invitational last week in three events. The highlight of Woods' competition was setting a new program record in the javelin with a throw of 30.48 meters. Woods also competed in the discus (32.64 meters) and the shot put (8.79 meters). Also Nominated: Lusiana Mailakeba, Methodist; Sophie Phillips, Meredith.
