Phillips, Treadway Earn USA South Athlete of the Week Honors

BASEBALL

Baseball Player of the Week
Daniel Phillips, Huntingdon - The sophomore outfielder from Luverne, Alabama went a combined 11-for-17 (.647) with a .647 on-base percentage and a 1.176 slugging percentage to go along with six runs scored, eight RBI, three home runs, and two stolen bases as the Hawks swept a three-game series from USA South rival Piedmont last week. In the series-opening win, Phillips slugged two home runs and collected six RBI with two runs scored. Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Derrick Carter, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior from Rocky Mount, North Carolina tossed a complete-game shutout in a 10-0 win over USA South rival Mary Baldwin in his only appearance last week for the Battling Bishops. He allowed just five hits and one walk with ten strikeouts in the victory. Baseball Rookie of the Week
Frankie Vasquez, Brevard - The freshman infielder from Pembroke Pines, Florida went a combined 5-for-9 (.556) with a .643 on-base percentage and a .778 slugging percentage to go along with three runs scored, eight RBI, two doubles, three walks, one stolen base, and one sacrifice fly as the Tornados swept a three-game series from USA South foe Berea last week. Also Nominated: Cam Watts, Greensboro; Caden Grider, Averett.

Baseball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
Andrew Baur, Methodist - The freshman from Greenville, South Carolina earned the win out of the bullpen in a 6-5 victory over USA South foe Pfeiffer last week. Baur tossed the final four innings of the game, not allowing a run on two hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Also Nominated: Hayden Woods, Greensboro.

 

SOFTBALL

Softball Player of the Week
Caiti Mickles, Pfeiffer - The senior outfielder/pitcher from Boonville, North Carolina was a combined 8-for-11 (.727), with a .667 on-base percentage, and a 1.273 slugging percentage to go along with five runs scored, nine RBI, three doubles, one home run, and one sacrifice fly as the Falcons posted a 4-0 record against USA South competition last week. In addition to her performace at the plate, Mickles posted a 2-0 record with a 0.91 ERA in the pitching circle. In a doubleheader sweep of William Peace, Mickles was a combined 4-for-5 with one run scored, four RBI, and one sacrifice fly. Softball Pitcher of the Week
Cheyanne Cox, Greensboro - The senior from Burlington, North Carolina did not allow a run and earned a 2-0 record in two appearances, both starts, last week for the Pride. In complete-game shutout wins over USA South foes Southern Virginia and Meredith, Cox totaled 14.0 innings pitched and allowed just four hits with one walk and 24 strikeouts. Softball Rookie of the Week
Miranda Treadway, Huntingdon - The freshman catcher from Destin, Florida was a combined 11-for-20 (.550) with a .591 on-base percentage and an .800 slugging percentage to go along with five runs scored, five RBI, two doubles, one home run, and two walks as the Hawks posted a 4-2 record last week. In a doubleheader sweep of Agnes Scott, Treadway was a combined 4-for-6 with three runs scored, one double, and one walk. In splitting four games against Maryville, Treadway was a combined 7-for-14 with two runs scored, five RBI, one double, one home run, and one walk. Also Nominated: Lauren Kay, Covenant; Kayleigh Raynor, Methodist; Lyndzi Partlow, Piedmont; Peyton Lowery, Averett; Cree Bass, Salem; Alexis Whitfield, N.C. Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
Emily Humphrey, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Winston-Salem, North Carolina earned a 1-1 record in three appearances, two starts, last week for the Battling Bishops. In 16.0 total innings, Humphrey compiled a 1.75 ERA by allowing eight runs (four earned) on 11 hits with six walks and 13 strikeouts. Her lone win was a complete-game shutout against USA South foe Methodist. Also Nominated: Macee Shults, Maryville.

 

MEN'S LACROSSE

Men's Lacrosse Player of the Week
Shawn Lamb, Southern Virginia - The Buena Vista, Virginia senior attackman totaled 17 points on seven goals and ten assists, to go along with 11 ground balls and four caused turnovers as the Knights posted a 2-0 record last week against USA South competition. In a 26-9 win over Greensboro, Lamb scored four goals with five assists, five ground balls, and two caused turnovers. In a 31-6 victory over Brevard, Lamb scored three times with five assists, six ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Also Nominated: Matt Pemberton, Methodist; Ryan Comeau, LaGrange; Avery Jenks, Piedmont; Parker Corbett, Averett; Will Beyer, Greensboro.

Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Johnny Matrona, Piedmont - The Nutley, New Jersey sophomore goalie posted a 2-0 record last week for the Lions against USA South competition. In 120 minutes played, Matrona allowed just 12 goals while stopping 23 shots, grabbing eight ground balls, and causing two turnovers. Also Nominated: Isaac Bohrer, LaGrange; Tyler Bennett, Methodist; Marques Fleming, Averett; Jaydon Arnold, Southern Virginia; Aidan Karmazinski, Greensboro.

Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Brayton Powers, Averett - The Airdrie, Alberta, Canada freshman attackman scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in a 14-13, overtime, win for the Cougars over USA South foe Huntingdon in the team's lone contest of last week. The win was the first Cofnerence victory for the Averett program. Powers totaled four goals and one ground ball in the win. Also Nominated: Ryan Comeau, LaGrange; Cy Horner, Methodist; Eric Fewell, Piedmont; Gabe King, Southern Virginia.

 

WOMEN'S LACROSSE

Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week
Alissa Johnson, Southern Virginia - The Salt Lake City, Utah junior attacker totaled 16 points on ten goals and six assists, to go along with 11 ground balls, eight draw controls, and seven  caused turnovers last week as the Knights posted a 2-0 record against USA South competition. In a 20-9 win over Averett, Johnson scored seven times with one assist, seven ground balls, six draw controls, and five caused turnovers. In an 18-2 victory over Huntingdon, Johnson scored three goals with five assists, four ground balls, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Also Nominated: Elizabeth Peasley, Averett; Keegan Foyles, Methodist; Maggi Spratlin, Piedmont; Madison Bradley, William Peace; Julia Barbato, Pfeiffer; Autumn Kraemer, Brevard.

Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
Alexis Murriel, Pfeiffer - The Gastonia, North Carolina senior defender/midfielder totaled ten caused turnovers, 13 draw controls, 13 ground balls, seven goals, and three assists as the Falcons posted a 2-0 record last week against USA South competition. In a 14-3 win over William Peace, Murriel compiled four caused turnovers, seven draw controls, five ground balls, and three goals. In a 16-6 victory over N.C. Wesleyan, Murriel caused six turnovers with eight ground balls, six draw controls, four goals, and three assists. Also Nominated: Kaylee Joblon, Averett; Julee Delellis, Methodist; Kellianne Schlosser, Piedmont; Chloe Mitchell, Southern Virginia.

Women's Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
Adelaide Smith, Southern Virginia - The Alpine, Utah freshman midfielder totaled five points on four goals to go along with five draw controls and one ground ball as the Knights posted a 2-0 record last week against USA South competition. In a 20-9 win over Averett, Smith scored once with one draw control. In an 18-2 victory over Huntingdon, Smith scored four goals with four draw controls and one ground ball. Also Nominated: Faith Bowlin, Averett; Macey Blackburn, Methodist; Maggi Spratlin, Piedmont; Analise Robinson, Pfeiffer; Emily Denaga, Brevard.

 

MEN'S TENNIS

Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Ethan McGee, Brevard - The junior from Salisbury, North Carolina earned a singles and doubles win over opposition from USA South foe Maryville in his only action last week for the Tornados. Both wins came at the number-one positions as he teamed with Noah Lewis in doubles. Also Nominated: Ben Luke, Covenant; Shori Nishizoe, Averett.

Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Shori Nishizoe, Averett - The freshman from Yao City, Osaka, Japan earned a 2-0 singles and doubles record last week for the Cougars against opposition from USA South rivals Southern Virginia and Methodist. The singles wins were at the number-five position while the doubles victories were at the number-three spot with Jorge Figueroa. Also Nominated: Bryce Bernitt, Brevard.

Men's Doubles Team of the Week
Quinn McNamara and Jordan Theron, Methodist - The Monarch duo earned a 2-0 record last week at the number-one position, gaining wins over opposition from USA South foes Southern Virginia and Averett. Also Nominated: Austin Dreslinski and Ben Luke, Covenant; Jorge Figueroa and Shori Nishizoe, Averett; Jhonny Acosta and Diego Segovia, N.C. Wesleyan.

 

WOMEN'S TENNIS

Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Paula Snelson, Southern Virginia - The freshman from Brasilia, Brazil posted a 3-0 singles record and a 2-1 doubles mark for the Knights last week. In singles, Snelson swept through opposition from USA South foes Averett, Mary Baldwin, and Pfeiffer. In doubles, Snelson teamed with Jillian Arnold to defeat opponents from Mary Baldwin and Pfeiffer. Also Nominated: Jill Lawrence, Methodist; Alyssa Cosentino, Salem; Madelyn Savage, Covenant; Paula Ryhsen, Averett; Hannah Hersh, Brevard.

Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week

Also Nominated: Alyssa Cosentino and Alyson Gammons, Salem; Jess Brown and Madelyn Savage, Covenant; Paula Snelson and Jillian Arnold, Southern Virginia.
