2022 USA South Men's Lacrosse Awards Announced
The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2022 All-Conference awards for men's lacrosse. Individually, Southern Virginia's Shawn Lamb was named Offensive Player of the Year while his teammate, Gabe King, collected Rookie of the Year honors. Pfeiffer's Tucker Hill was named Defensive Player of the Year and Piedmont's Tim Dunton was named Coach of the Year to round out the individual awards. Finally, the USA South recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school.
All nominees were submitted by each institution and the awards are voted on by the men's lacrosse coach at each institution.
Lamb, a senior attackman from Buena Vista, Virginia becomes the first Knight to be named USA South Men's Lacrosse Player of the Year in the program's season in the Conference. Following the end of the regular season, Lamb sat second in the Conference with 87 points on 43 goals and a USA South-best 44 assists. He has also contributed 38 ground balls and 14 caused turnovers this spring. In League-only play, Lamb ranked second in the Conference with 59 points on 27 goals and a co-League high 32 assists. He also grabbed 28 ground balls and caused seven turnovers for the Knights. For his efforts, Lamb earned First Team All-Conference accolades at attack while being named USA South Player of the Week twice this spring.
Hill, a senior faceoff specialist from Victor, New York is the first Falcon to win the Conference's Defensive Player of the Year award. Hill leads the Conference with 234 faceoffs won, a .799 faceoff win percentage, and 154 ground balls. Hill's faceoff percentage currently leads all of Division III men's lacrosse while his 11.00 ground balls per game average ranks fourth in the nation. Additionally, Hill has totaled 14 points on 11 goals and three assists with six caused turnovers. In USA South-only contests, Hill once again led the League in faceoffs won (147), faceoff winning percentage (.799), and ground balls (108), to go along with six goals scored, one assist, and three caused turnovers. For his efforts, Hill earned All-Conference accolades at the faceoff position for the second consecutive season while being named USA South Defensive Player of the Week four times this spring.
King, a freshman attackman from Heber City, Utah becomes the first Knight to be named USA South Men's Lacrosse Rookie of the Year in the program's season in the Conference. Following the regular season, King ranked 11th in the Conference with 53 points and 39 goals while adding 14 assists, 25 ground balls, and four caused turnovers. King performed best when playing against USA South foes as he led all Conference rookies in scoring with 41 points on a rookie-best 29 goals with 12 assists, 18 ground balls, and three caused turnovers. Finally, King was named USA South Rookie of the Week three times this spring.
In his seventh season at Piedmont, Dunton earns his first USA South Coach of the Year accolade. He has led the Lions to a 10-7 overall record and a 8-1 mark in League play. The total amount of overall wins, as well as the Conference victories are both the most in program history. Dunton's Lions placed second in the League after the regular season despite being predicted to finish third in the USA South Preseason Coaches Poll. Piedmont now heads into the semifinal round of the USA South Tournament as the second seed with hopes of capturing their second tournament title.
