Dylan Bohling, Lydia Lewis Earn Postgraduate Scholarships

Montgomery, Ala.-Two Huntingdon Student-Athletes were selected for postgraduate scholarships.

Dylan Bohling earned the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship to pursue part-time or full-time graduate studies at the school of his choice. Bohling is the first student-athlete from Huntingdon College to receive the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.

Bohling will serve as a Graduate Assistant for Men's Basketball at Reinhardt University and obtain a Master's in Sports Administration and Leadership.

"Huntingdon College prepared me and set me up to win the $10,000 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship," Bohling said. "This is because of all of the offerings that Huntingdon College has outside of intercollegiate athletics. I was able to be heavily involved on campus while also playing on the Men' Basketball Team. This scholarship was primarily based on athletics, leadership, and involvement outside of athletics. I would also like to thank Dr. Shoffner for nominating me for the scholarship."

"I could not be more proud of Dylan. I believe Dylan has earned this scholarship because of his character and work ethic. He is the epitome of 'Student-Athlete'. I know Dylan will use this money to earn a master's degree at the highest level," Head Men's Basketball Coach David Gurganus said.

Lydia Lewis earned the ASHOF Postgraduate Scholarship to pursue studies at the school of her choice. The post-graduate scholarship program was established to recognize outstanding college student-athletes around the state.

"I was very honored to be nominated for the ASHOF Postgraduate Scholarship, and felt extremely appreciative to be selected as the overall winner," Lewis said. "It was very rewarding to see my hard work during my time at Huntingdon pay off and help me succeed in the next step."

Lewis will be attending the University of South Alabama's Doctor of Physical Therapy program beginning in the Fall.

"I am excited to take on this program full-force, allowing it to shape me into a well-rounded PT. My dream career leads to a position within the Pediatric setting, as I adore getting to interact with and help children," Lewis said.

"I am very proud of Lydia for receiving this award," Head Softball Coach Casey Chrietzberg said. "She has worked very hard in all of her endeavors on and off the field throughout her college career and she is very deserving of this award. We also appreciate Dr. Shoffner's work in nominating her for this award."

"Both Lydia and Dylan have been standout students and leaders on their respective teams during their career at Huntingdon," Athletic Director Eric Levanda said. "Having two of our students rewarded with a post-graduate scholarship in the same year is rare and on their way out, Dylan and Lydia are still providing examples of their leadership and inspiration."

"I am very proud of Lydia Lewis and Dylan Bohling for their hard work and dedication throughout their academic and athletic careers while at Huntingdon," Dr. Sara Shoffner said. " I have enjoyed teaching both of them and appreciate their leadership and enthusiasm as students. Their postgraduate scholarship awards are a testament to their numerous academic and athletic accomplishments. I am excited to see them recognized as they prepare to excel in graduate school and beyond."

"Lydia Lewis and Dylan Bohling are true scholar-athletes who have achieved excellence in the classroom and on the field or court during their college careers," President J. Cameron West said. " In addition to being stand-outs both academically and athletically, each offers a level of wisdom, poise, maturity, and leadership that warrants recognition as role models for all student-athletes. I am thrilled that the NCAA supports graduates' continuing scholarship and professional goals, and I look forward to cheering for Dylan and Lydia as they advance in their respective careers."
