Lillian Humphries to Serve as Assistant Women's Wrestling Coach

Montgomery, Ala.-Huntingdon Athletics has announced the hiring of Lillian Humphries to serve as Assistant Women's Wrestling Coach.

"I'm excited to be a part of Huntingdon College's new women's wrestling program," Humphries said. "I am grateful and blessed for the opportunity Coach Matt Oliver has given me by bringing me onto the coaching staff. I also want to thank Eric Levanda, Mr. Jay Dorman, and President West for trusting in Matt and welcoming me to campus. I'm looking forward to helping start and build the program here. Women's Wrestling is quickly growing and I'm thrilled to be a part of it."

Humphries is a graduate of Presbyterian College, the first Division I school to sponsor a women's wrestling program in the country, with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. She was a member of the Presbyterian Wrestling Team from 2018-2022. She started a wrestling club in Greenville, SC, where she traveled and coached with women's wrestlers at the USMC Women's National Championships in Fort Worth, Tx. Humphries is the first official NCAA Division I graduate for Women's Wrestling since the NCAA announcement of the emerging sport status for Women's Wrestling.

"We are all extremely excited to hire Lillian as our first Women's Wrestling Assistant Coach," Director of Wrestling Matt Oliver said. "I believe she is a perfect fit for Huntingdon College. Lillian was one of the first recruits and graduates for Presbyterian College and knows what it's like to be at a program that is just starting from the ground up. During my time in South Carolina, I had the pleasure of helping coach & train around Lillian over the years and am confident she will help build this program."

As an intern with Presbyterian Wrestling, Humphries assisted men's and women's wrestling coaches with recruiting, logistics, and organization. Additionally, she helped organize and host the first PC Women's Wrestling Recruitment Day.

"Lillian has a passion for her sport and growing the sport is important to her," Athletic Director Eric Levanda said. "Based on her recent experience as a collegiate women's wrestler, she's the perfect person to assist Coach Oliver in continuing to build Huntingdon's overall wrestling program and to be a leader for our future women's wrestlers."

"The addition of women's wrestling to our menu of intercollegiate athletic teams has brought an exciting dimension to Huntingdon athletic programming and even greater depth in women's sports," President West said. "It is a pleasure to welcome Lillian Humphries to the coaching staff. Her all-around sport knowledge and experience and her first-hand knowledge of women's wrestling will be strong assets to both the wrestling program and our coaching staff."
