Cembrale Named USA South Player of the Week

Junior Erin Cembrale named USA South Women's Soccer Player of the Week.

 

FOOTBALL

Football Offensive Player of the Week
Bryce Jackson, Averett - The junior quarterback from Durham, North Carolina broke the program's single-game record for passing yards with 397 in a 30-27, overtime, victory over Christopher Newport last week. Jackson was 31-of-52 through the air with three touchdowns, while also rushing the ball three times for ten yards and catching one pass for eight yards. Also Nominated: Kevin Alford, N.C. Wesleyan; Brandon Norris, Brevard; Jake Schenk, Southern Virginia.

Football Offensive Rookie of the Week
Tyler Coleman, LaGrange - The freshman quarterback from Richmond Hill, Georgia came off the bench in the fourth quarter to throw two touchdowns in a 34-21 loss to Berry last week. Coleman was 8-for-12 passing for 166 yards and added one rush for four yards. Also Nominated: Shawn Watlington, Averett; Marcus Lane, Brevard.

Football Defensive Player of the Week 
Luke Moorhead, N.C. Wesleyan
 - The Monroe, Georgia junior linebacker accumulated a game-high 16 total tackles, including three for a loss of yardage, in a 30-21 loss to Shenandoah last week. Moorhead totaled 12 solo tackles with four assisted take downs including three tackles for a loss of six total yards. Also Nominated: Jerome Bass, Brevard; Tristin Quick, Averett; Jason Siaosi, Southern Virginia.

Football Defensive Rookie of the Week
Nick Haitz, Averett - The freshman safety from Reston, Virginia recorded a tackle in a 30-27, overtime, victory over Christopher Newport last week. Also Nominated: None.

Football Special Teams Player of the Week
Will Caviness, Averett - The junior place kicker from Greensboro, North Carolina was a perfect three-for-three on field goal attempts, including 3-for-3 on point-after-touchdown opportunities in a 30-27, overtime, victory over Christopher Newport last week. Caviness connected on the eventual game-winning field goal on Averett first overtime possession. He also set a new career-long field goal when he hit on a 46-yarder as time expired on the first half. Also Nominated: Stamati Damalos, Brevard.

 

MEN'S SOCCER

Men's Soccer Player of the Week
Ndubueze Henry, Maryville - The Lagos, Nigeria junior forward totaled two goals and two assists in a 2-0 week for the Scots. In a 2-1, double-overtime, win over Berry, Henry assisted on both goals including the game-winner in the 101st minute. In a 3-2, double-overtime, victory over Southern Virginia, Henry scored the game-tying goal in the 87th minute before winning the game with a score in the 104th minute. Also Nominated: Jake Major, Covenant; Tyler Yates, Averett; Estevan Berto, Brevard; Jean Bah, Pfeiffer; Jordy Briceno, Greensboro; Blake Webb, LaGrange.

Men's Soccer Defender of the Week
Obdulio Argueta, Mary Baldwin - The Washington, D.C. senior goalkeeper allowed one goal and stopped nine shots while in net for 200 minutes during a 1-0-1 week for the Fighting Squirrels. In a 2-0 shutout of Bridgewater, Argueta stopped all seven shots he faced and also assisted on the team's second goal of the game. In a 1-1 draw with Hampden-Sydney, Argueta made two saves to preserve the tie. Also Nominated: Henry Hooks, Covenant; Anton Lindberg, Averett; Rocco Barbon, Brevard; Ali Jaafar, Pfeiffer; Lucas Wright, LaGrange; Noah Putman, Maryville.

Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Jean Bah, Pfeiffer - The Charlotte, North Carolina freshman forward scored both Falcon goals in a 2-0 victory over Johnson & Wales, the only contest last week for Pfeiffer. Bah opened the scoring in the 61st minute with the eventual game-winning goal before scoring an insurance tally in the 84th minute. Also Nominated: Anton Lindberg, Averett; Travis Garner-McGraw, William Peace; Sean Carter, LaGrange; William Bryan, Maryville; Shawn Curtis, Southern Virginia.

 

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Women's Soccer Player of the Week
Erin Cembrale, Huntingdon - The Palm Harbor, Florida junior midfielder notched two game-winning goals in a 2-0 week for the Hawks. In a 2-1 victory over Belhaven, Cembrale broke a 1-1 tie in the 73rd minute with an unassisted score. In a 2-0 victory over Oglethorpe, Cembrale opened the scoring with the eventual game-winning goal in the 13th minute. Also Nominated: Kailey Burrell, Covenant; Annie Ammons, Mary Baldwin; Baylee Greenwood, Salem; Riley Benson, N.C. Women's Soccer Defender of the Week
Madi Wilson, Piedmont - The Loganville, Georgia sophomore goalkeeper did not allow a goal and totaled 11 saves in 200 minutes of the two games she appeared in last week for the Lions. In a scoreless draw with Birmingham Southern, Wilson stopped all six shots faced. In a 2-0 win over Marietta, Wilson made five shots to earn the shutout. Also Nominated: Mary Newman, Methodist; Jordan Tomberlin, Salem; Makenzie Jones, William Peace; Doren Staley, Huntingdon; Clarice Peters, Averett; Christina Wiswell, Wesleyan; Maggie Wilson, Maryville; Rebeccah Rojas, Brevard.

Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week
Rachel Johnson, Methodist - The Indian Trail, North Carolina freshman defender scored her first collegiate goal last week as the Monarchs posted a 1-1 record. In a 2-1 victory over Salisbury, Johnson scored the eventual game-winning goal in the final minute of the first half. In a 2-1 loss to St. Mary's, Johnson managed a shot but it was not on target. Also Nominated: Ashley Linden, Salem; Riley Benson, N.C. Volleyball Player of the Week
Sarah Shropshire, Averett - The senior outside hitter from Wilmington, North Carolina averaged 4.17 kills per set, to go along with a .320 hitting percentage, as the Cougars posted a 3-0 record last week with wins over Piedmont, Maryville, and LaGrange. Shropshire's week-highs included 21 kills, eight digs and two blocks. Erin Gray, Averett - The sophomore libero from Virginia Beach, Virginia averaged 5.42 digs, to go along with 1.58 assists, per set as the Cougars posted a 3-0 record last week with wins over Piedmont, Maryville, and LaGrange. Gray's week-highs included 30 digs, eight assists and two service aces. Kelsey Carman, Covenant - The freshman outside hitter/defensive specialist from Cleveland, Tennessee averaged 2.50 kills and 2.67 digs per set as the Scots posted a 2-1 record last week gaining wins against Asbury and Sewanee with a loss to Centre. Carman accumulated match-highs of 11 kills, eight digs and one service ace. Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Connor Moranos, Piedmont - The senior from Jasper, Georgia placed third out of 71 runners at the University of North Georgia Invitational last week. Moranos completed the 5,000-meter course in a new program-record time of 15:32 helping the Lions to a first place team finish. Also Nominated: Drew Topoly, Methodist; Josiah Mellott, Covenant; Daniel Steele, William Peace; Jeremiah Ivory, Pfeiffer; Joseph Grubbs, LaGrange.

Men's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Josiah Mellott, Covenant - The freshman from University Place, Washington placed tenth out of 71 runners at the University of North Georgia Invitational last week. Mellott completed the 5,000-meter course in a new program-record time of 16:23 helping the Scots to a third place team finish. Also Nominated: Noah Carter, Methodist; Brendan Plogger, Mary Baldwin; Jadon Gonzales, Piedmont; Daniel Steele, William Peace; Jeremiah Ivory, Pfeiffer; Joseph Grubbs, LaGrange.

 

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY

Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week
S.K. Lipperd, Covenant - The senior from Birmingham, Alabama placed third out of 95 runners at the University of North Georgia Invitational last week. Lipperd completed the 5,000-meter course in a program-record time of 18:35 helping the Scots to a fourth place team finish. Also Nominated: Caroline Stubblefield, Methodist; Alyssa Epperson, Mary Baldwin; Val Angel, Piedmont; Micah Welborn, Pfeiffer.

Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Lydia Moore, Covenant - The freshman from Washington, D.C. placed 47th out of 95 runners at the University of North Georgia Invitational last week. Moore completed the 5,000-meter course in a time of 21:52 helping the Scots to a fourth place team finish. Also Nominated: Kaitlyn Voss, Pfeiffer.
