Hawks Celebrate 2022-2023 Seasons with annual Athletic Banquet

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Huntingdon's Athletic department celebrated their annual Athletic Banquet to honor student-athletes and coaches on April 19th. This event is sponsored by the Hawks SAAC Committee.

The evening began with the introduction of student-athlete emcees, Innes Mackay and Hall Billings, senior baseball players.

The first award presenter was strength and conditioning coach, Charlie Goodyear who took the time to honor hard-working student-athletes and interns.

Huntingdon's SAAC followed with the presentation of the Most Outstanding Senior SAAC Member presented by Associate Athletic Director, Courtney Harville.

The winner for the SAAC Outstanding Female Senior Award was:

The winner for the SAAC Outstanding Male Senior Award was:

Sam Page – Men's Basketball

 

Following the presentation of Goodyear and Harville, the emcees got to work announcing and presenting our 18 Athletic Awards. The nominees and award winners are below:

 

Sports Medicine Female Comeback of the Year

Award Winner : Meredith Head

 

Sports Medicine Male Comeback of the Year

Award Winner : Karl Dorn

 

Megan Cooke Sportsmanship Award

 Award Winner : Alina Shoemake – Women's Basketball

Shoemake won the award after earning the Collegiate Conference of the South Sportsmanship Award and being a team captain. She is described as always willing to help others.

John McWilliams Sportsmanship Award

Award Winner : Taylor Bradley – Men's Soccer

Bradley's accolades include team captain, SAAC member, CCS Sportsmanship award and he also participated in an internship on campus with Game Day Operations. He is described as a great person, teammate, and leader.

Female Newcomer of the Year Award

Award Winner : Jordan Holman – Softball

The transfer junior has went 45-102 at the plate, scoring 31 runs with 47 RBIs. She has hit four homeruns this season and has a slugging percentage of 71.6. She currently ranks first in RBIs in DIII, 8th in hits and RBIs/game and ranks 11th in total bases.

Riley Gagne – XC/Track

Stephanie Mudgett – Women's Lacrosse

 

Male Newcomer of the Year Award

Award Winner : Gage Kettlewell – Men's Lacrosse

Kettlewell is a three-time USA South Rookie of the Week award winner, scoring 41 goals so far this season with a high of 7 against Brevard and Warren Wilson.

Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Award Winner : AB Davis – Women's Basketball

The senior accounting major who has a 3.86 GPA earned first team all-conference this year and has earned the CSC Academic Award, USA South All-Academic Team for three years, 7x Dean's List of High Honors, 2021 Jane Williams Scholastic Award, KPMG Scholar, KPMG Scholarship to ASU for Graduate School.

Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Award Winner : Ryan Campion – Men's Lacrosse

With a 4.0 GPA, this Business Administration/Pre Law major has never received anything lower than an A. He is attending Law School at Ole Miss on a ¾ scholarship. Chosen by faculty to present and aid in many presentations pertaining to the business department. Having a good season with 16 goals, and 14 assists with a season high four goals against Spalding.

Female Student-Athlete of the Year

Award Winner : Morgan Ilsley - Volleyball

She led all DIII for triple-doubles (offense, defense, setting). First team all-conference, all-tournament team for the CCS. She led the team in assists with 644 and accumulated 380 points for the second place Hawks this season.

Male Student-Athlete of the Year

Award Winner : Landon Cotney - Football

The three-year starting quarterback has been a team captain for the past two years and has led the team to a conference title the past three. He was first team All USA South and Offensive Player of the Year in 2021, and 1st Team All-Conference in 2022. This year he has thrown for 2615 yards and averaged over 200 yards a game. With 22 touchdowns and 8 rushing touchdowns, Cotney played and started in all 11 games this season.

Female Single Game Performance

Award Winner : AB Davis – Women's Basketball

Against Piedmont, Davis boosted the Hawks to a 98-91 overtime win with 29 points and 8 rebounds while shooting 52.9% from the field. She had 19 first half points.

Kamea Nash - Volleyball

 

Male Single Game Performance

Award Winner : Kahari McReynolds - Football

Against BSC McReynolds had 297 all purpose yards and carried the ball 24 times for 210 yards, 3 touchdowns, and averaged 8.8 yards per carry with a long of 46 yards. He also caught one pass for 9 yards and had 3 kick off returns for 78 yards in boosting the Hawks to the win.

Female Sport Play of the Year

Award Winner : Deshauna Foote – Women's Basketball

Against Belhaven with 9.5 seconds left in the first overtime, Kinstin Davis received the inbound and swung the ball to Deshauna Foote who cut through the lane with 3.7 seconds left and created her own shot to score a crazy layup as the time expired to tie the game and send it to double-ot. The Hawks went on to win the game 79-72.

Male Sport Play of the Year

Award Winner : Landon Cotney to Kyler Chaney - Football

With 1:09 left on the clock against BSC, Cotney threw to Chaney for the game winning touchdown.

Female Sport Win of the Year

Award Winner : Volleyball against Maryville

The two time defending conference champions were taken down by the Hawks who found themselves down early 0-2, the comeback win happened after the fifth set and Huntingdon earned their first victory over Maryville during the NCAA era.

Softball against #5 Berry

 

Male Sport Win of the Year

Award Winner : Baseball against Millsaps

Baseball came back down 13-0 in the second inning to win 22-15.

Female Sport Coach of the Year

Award Winner : Casey Chrietzberg

27-7 overall record and 9-3 in conference play so far this season. Her team has been nationally ranked at 22 and beaten a top 5 team.

Charlie Lane Coach of the Year

Award Winner : Matt Oliver

Highest ever finish in NCAA regional and had three individual placers.
