Esports Hires Nevin Horne as Assistant

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Director Justin Ellis has announced the hire of his new assistant, Nevin Horne.

Horne joins Hawks Esports for their first season beginning in 2023. Director Ellis is excited about Horne and says, "Nevin has an extremely impressive background from assisting at a D1 institution and pushing a team to being in the top 16 at a national event, similar to me, on top of doing work in the scholastic esports landscape. I cannot wait to see how he helps push this program forward." Nevin says he is, "super-excited to take on this new challenge with Huntingdon and truly begin to build something great for the entire campus community to be proud of!"

Before coming to Huntingdon, Horne spent time at Generation Esports where he led the tournament operations department. He also planned and executed the first-ever in-person HSEL Nationals LAN event for the 2022-2023 School Year, a major milestone for the organization.

His coaching experience stems from the University of Houston where he was a coach and mentor to individuals and teams in Overwatch. He provided customized training and strategies to improve performance and achieve success in competitive play. Since starting there in January of 2023, he has helped the team finish in the top 40 in the country in the Overwatch Collegiate Championship, hosted by Activision Blizzard.

In January of 2020 he founded Marsupial Gaming where he successfully managed and coached eight teams simultaneously under the MG brand, leading them to participate in various tournaments. He led MG teams to victory in twelve amateur tournaments of varying skull levels over three years and placed in the top four in 95% of the contests they entered.

Horne attended and graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in May of 2020 with a degree in Business Administration.
