Hawks win final game of non-conference series at Piedmont

DEMOREST, Ga.  – The Huntingdon baseball team closed out a non-conference series against Piedmont with a 7-0 win on Sunday.

The Hawks outscored the Lions 20-2 in the final two games of the series. Piedmont won the first game 4-2 on Friday.

On Sunday, Huntingdon scored three runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the ninth inning while pitchers John Crawford and Patrick Sawyer kept Piedmont off balance at the plate.

Crawford and Sawyer combined for nine strikeouts, four walks and nine hits allowed in the shutout. Sawyer (2-2) earned the win in 4 2/3 innings of relief.

Huntingdon took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning with Colton Clark scoring on an error and Colin Whibbs and Hall Billings each driving in one run. In the ninth inning, Billings drove in another run, Ryan Meadows drove in two runs and Clark drove in one run.

Dawson Kuba, Clark and Wes Powell combined for seven of Huntingdon's 12 hits. Kuba was 3-for-4, Clark was 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run and Powell was 2-for-5 with a run. Billings and Meadows each had two RBIs and a run, Whibbs had one RBI and Andrew Knight, Jacob Pitts and Ryan Greene each scored one run.

Coming Up: Huntingdon will host Covenant in a three-game non-conference series on Friday and Saturday. Game 1 is set for 6 p.m. on Friday.
