Hawks fall to Piedmont in conference opener

MONTGOMERY, Ala.  – The Huntingdon baseball team rallied late but came up short 8-6 against Piedmont on Thursday in Game 1 of a three-game conference series.

Trailing 8-0 in the eighth inning, the Hawks scored six runs to cut Piedmont's lead to two. But Piedmont was able to hold off the Hawks' late push.

Ryan Meadows and Jake Elrod each had two-run singles in the inning and Ryan Greene and Colton Clark each drove in one run in the inning.

Clark finished 3-for-5 with one RBI. Greene was 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run and Wes Powell, Andrew Knight, and Colin Whibbs each had two hits and one run. Meadows finished with two RBIs and a run, Elrod had two RBIs and Taylor Gay scored one run.

Carden Mellown (1-3) took the loss in six innings, striking out 11, walking two and allowing seven hits, two earned runs and five total runs.
